yeah it couldn't be 1st gear could it.

Wednesday I will take a trip to the machinist and get him to put 5th gear in the lathe and shave 2mm on a 45 deg angle off the corner of the teeth on the side that is hitting.

No sweat.

Cheers Fogo...

With a 2-3 mm space on the barrel it might get a bit close,

Looks nice though!

Will the relief work on the balance shaft put it out of balance now and cause vibration?

A bit more vibration is not really going to be an issue I'd reckon . The location it was taken from is so close to the center of rotation it would only make the tiniest difference if any .

Not much metal had to come out. She's gunna have a KTM fairing on the front so she mose well have the 640 vibrations as well.

Call in anytime Russ...

This might end up a Condo ADV spectators rally, someone better tell some organisers over there that they better start working on plenty of good vantage points to view the action, something they haven't done very well over the last couple of years. This could be the biggest year ever for the bikes.
And get someone with a movie camera in that bloody Slattery auction chopper.
Cheers Fogo...

I'm with Doctor take a bit off the bigend to get clearance as well as your 45deg bevel on 5th.

No no no, big no no , the rods are shotpeaned to stress relieve them for a reason. Anywhere you start chewing into them could be a place to start a crack. 5th gear is constantly in mesh with its mate, so a skim off the corner will be fine.
Cheers Fogo....

whatever you think is best,
I'd be worried about the bigend and gears expanding with heat
And just as i'm aware that rods are shotpeened
I'm sure you're aware they can be re-shotpeened again.

yes, I know you don't want to split your crank again.
or maybe a gentle grind and polish?
just suggestions

Team Green (or is that Old n Mouldy) decides to build a retro racer out of a "used by date" Kiwi fruit and enter a race with it... and suddenly the onus is on the organisers to build a documentary around this epiphany?

Who are ya'... Brocky re-visited?

PS: I do like the build, coming along nicely... that whole fifth gear thing is overated... rune a 4 speeder!

PPS: And seriously, the organisers do a big enough job to put Condo on as it is. Navigational Rally is a sport for participants... not really a "spectator" sport... what with private property, public liability and the MA/polices stipulations to follow.

Get to the rally, be a part of it, service crews get to the re-fuels eyc. and catch as much as the action as possible... If you want to be a movie star, there an SX series in Oz...

or you'se could ask Charlie B to test ride the Kerminator for you? That's usually good for an entourage and an interview or two?
