Many Hells Angels are using custom Night Rods in Europe, they seem
to be more appreciated over here.

Love the 'real' Harley debate, for this exact reason my father rides a V-Rod
and I have a Buell Lightning. I'm still open minded though, and may buy a real 'paint shaker' in the future.

Yeah. Could never happen...

I didn't say could never happen, I said it's not common. While I don't know any HA members personaly, I do have some friends in another 1% club, and the very few with sportsters get lots of shit form the rest of them.

Apparently they need to move to Oaktown and join the 81 club there.

When I find myself out in the hinterlands away from the leafy suburbs, I see 90% Sportsters of one variety or another. Only old fat dudes are on the big bikes out east of the Bay. I also see the heavies on the interstates.

A 25 year old badass is not riding a Road King. He's on some variety of custom Sportster. Usually with high bars, low seat, little teeny fairing and aftermarket pipes.

Here in Western North Carolina of the Harleys that I see when I hang out at Thunder Mountain general store on 143 , 95% big twin and mainly women on the 5% that are Sportsters.
Probably more Harleys that all the other brands combined. I think that they get ridden more than most ADVers wanna admit.

Yep, my 1% friend has over 50k miles on his heavily modded Street Glide, and he's only had it for two or three years.

Most members were on Dyna's but that is changing, some on Road Kings usually the older guys but not always. I've seen guys on buell's and sportsters but not many. It's really up to the local club President what is acceptable to ride. It goes without saying that Sonny can ride whatever he wants. Full face helmets are not the norm but they do provide some privacy and can be seen being used on a regular basis. Those look like legit full trademarked Death Heads and rockers.

Getting back to the OP's original point, my wife and I were driving down the interstate the other day, and were being tailed by a couple of HD's. They were wearing full-face helmets, and they had the signal lights on their mirrors like the guys on Sons of Anarchy have. Not sure if that's OEM or not.

Anyways...

When the lane to the right is clear, I get over, and let them pass.

They were Mongols.

Never seen any 1%ers in full face helmets before.

From the OP's post, it looks like they aren't the only ones.

Full face

HA's just had a USA run in Rockford Illinois in August 2013. Lots of police and HA in full face. My guess is to avoid being photographed or identified easily. Cops hit the clubhouse on a search warrant about a week prior to run. Arrested a few on kicking somebody's ass who supposedly messed up some club business?

Sonny B wears a full face due to cancer surgery

I bought my bike at Ness in Dublin, Ca. Arlen Ness and Sonny Barger have known each other for a long time. Sonny sold his Victory Vision to a HA club member and bought a Victory Cross Country tour. Sonny wears a full face because he had a larenectomy [sp?] and the wind bothered his surgery hole in his throat. Saw Sonny at Sturgis this year looking at the new Indians. he had a full patch member with him and a couple of prospects. He was very low key and friendly to people. several people stopped him and asked for pics and he obliged all of them.

Why would you let them pass? They are all assholes (gang members). Never let them pass you. They are the lowest of the low.

I've noticed these full patch "bike enthusiasts" in the Lower Mainland are on quiet and relatively stock (!!) bikes and wearing full face helmets as well. I'd guess in order to remain unidentifiable and to avoid interactions with the police for Motor Vehicle Act violations.

The wannabes and smaller clubs are wearing beanies and have heavily modded bikes. Myself, I can't stand any of these animals. Wannabes, hang arounds and full patch are all contemptible people.
