Not exactly on the topic, but can anyone recommend a good, readable history of Canada? I'm trying to fill in the large gaps in my knowledge. Readable is key. I don't really care to know the names of every Governor General.

I could have done that. I am quite familiar with all the information there. History is what I was looking for. I've also been through more than a few of the Canadian government's historical archives. I'm looking for a BOOK. Remember those?

I ordered The Penguin History of Canada, which surprisingly enough has nothing to do with penguins, and History of the Canadian Peoples, but I was wondering if anyone had other recommendations.

Try some of Pierre Berton's books. Perhaps a bit dated now, but then again, so is history

Yeah, I was looking for some history that was brand-new and "trending." Our politicians are pretty good at supplying it to us down here. . .

Thanks for the link. Looks interesting.

You want trending "history", look no further than the current mayor of Toronto. He makes history fun.

Is Toronto part of Canada? I thought it was kind of like New York City, or all of California -- an autonomous region that had little current ties to the rest of the federation.

See "irresponsible government."

If his Lordship has his way, it'll become a private medieval fiefdom

In all fairness, I don't live there; more of a horse'n buggy crowd in my 'hood.

But the question is: What's in the pipe?

I just searched "opium pipe" and came up with this image:

Observe those on the extreme right.

I know very little about Toronto politics. We've got enough of a mess down here right now.

We should likely stop thrashing on the Right Questionable Mayor, or this will end up in C,S & M.

Good idea. Nuff wasted on him.

Hey, you should see the neat boat we spotted on the St Lawrence Seaway today.

You guys should be careful. This one's on our side.

Forgot you're on dialup there. Here's the boat.

I think it's in port waiting for parts for this:
