There where cops everywhere, we stopped counting at 27, I can hardly believe that I did not get a ticket

Nice to have met you also Dan.

We now have met 13 riders that will be on the Stahlratte from Carti to Cartagena on Dec 6th;

I think we are going to have a lousy time

Twice they waved to stop me at the last minute as I passed them but I kept going. I wasn't speeding (when they saw me) so If they wanted to stop me they could radio their pals or come after me. I think they were too hot to care cause they never followed me.

At the Panama house

First they ate

And then they drank

And then Valentino got a hair cut:

We created a monster, she just could not stop

Panama City

So we had planned to make one more stop at the beaches off the Panamerican highway, somewhere between La Chorrera and Panama city, but all where high priced and highly touristy with the large hotel chains dominating the landscape. So we darted for Panama city and crossed the Bridge of the Americas. It was exciting to have reached that landmark. Cars were honking there horns, yelling welcome to Panama, cheering in us on. It was great.

We rode around town, down Balboa avenue, until we found a hotel for one night before heading to the Panama House B&B aka the pre Stahlratte adventure meet see above post re. our first night as a group.

Basically something like that:

The Dutch; Mirjam & Edwin

The Tuckers; James & Colleen

The Germans; Linde & Ziggy

Moto-Mikey

and yours truly Jackie & Valentino.

Some of our downtown pics, I'll post more later on the Canal visit.

It was odd to see the skyline of a modern city after riding through the jungle of Panama

The road from Sixaloa to Playa Catalina was a real beauty...

Cool2 Over the Gap

Made it to Cartagena, Colombia. Tomorrow we all get our rides back. Rough seas for the crossing

But all are in good health and spirit, looking forward to burn some rubber again.

Tell you all about it later...

The "southern" part can now really start!

What a view was that from that little porthole

Though Valentino you must tell me what you have been using lately:

Talking Out of Costa Rica

Not that I have been slacking off or anything, but the last few days have been quite busy and seldom with an internet connection.

We spent a couple of more days in Arenal and stayed at hostal Roca Negra. The owners inherited pastures and turned it into a beautiful tropical garden. It was hard to believe that it only took 10 years to grow.

We also spent one day at the thermals

Muchas gracias Costa Rica

Thumb Panama here we come

The next morning we left early for the Panamanian border on the Atlantic side. Heading for Limon, a dodgy port that was mostly an outlet for the US fruit companies. We got soaked for the first time of the trip, so no complaints after two months of riding.

Once the sky cleared up we enjoyed a really nice ride through the final miles of Costa Rica prior to entering Panama.

Our first glimpse of the Atlantic

We parked Angela and had a great Costa Rican Lunch for about $6.00

More great vistas and roads and then the banana plantations started to spring

Almost there for the final Central American border crossing

Cool2 Sixaola

The Panamanian border was pretty straight forward but we got our first taste of the general nonchalance of Panama

Looking back at the Costa Rica side

Valentino played fixer for a change

The old bridge, only for pedestrians now

One more

Cool pickup cabs

Get your insurance here

Look at his body position, this quick little thief was trying to open the tank bag zipper while I took his photo

From there we spent one night in the border town of Changuinola with the intent of crossing the width of Panama to get back to the Pacific side by the end of the day.

More to come...

Wink Into the Jungle

Shortly after Chinanguola, we started to climb the Cordillera Central and headed deep in the Panamanian jungle. The tarmac was great, and we were surrounded by jungle, thick, thick walls of vegetation.

Heres a taste.

First signs of civilization after many kilometres; Of course what else would it be!!

Waterfall from far

Then close

After the pass at about 1200 meters we made our way back to the Pan American highway

Our heading was Playa Santa Catalina, the town was celebrating Independence day from Spain "28 de Noviembre"

We kind of crash the parade

It was a new road to the Pacific Coast, a lot smoother than the Highway, a lot of various terrain today, beautiful riding.

We spent two days on the Pacific coast of Panama at Playa Santa Catalina, not too shabby

Your'e almost caught up...
