GPS Map 60/C memory question

I've had a Garmin GPS Map 60C that I use for sailing and on the bike for about two years now. Pretty nice unit, if the display screen is a little small (and may I add that I hate Garmin software? PC only? Come on people, get with the program)

Anyway, the GPS has 56 megs of memory, which sounded fine when I bought it until you start loading maps into it. Then you realize space is limited. But this unit has no card memory. What are the options for longer trips, besides carryining a laptop? (See, I'm an Apple guy and the only reason I still have an old, 10 pound IBM Thinkpad is to run the damn Garmin software!)

A better option than carrying a PC is just to get another GPS that will hold much more memory. I using a 276C now and have a 256MB card---but have some smaller ones in case I want to swap them out on the fly.
Now that I figured out how---I like loading up 2 or 3 different things on the card and be able to select which one I want to view. I have "City Select"--"Roads and Recreations" (very good backroad detail) and "Topo" loaded on the same card.
And of course there are other Garmin units that have a different type of memory card that will hold much more than 256MB--but I don't like those units.

Why in the heck did you buy a 250 ?? "Because they were all out of 175's"

True enough

But the idea was to buy one GPS for all uses (thus the handheld) and save a little coin.

I use a 76CS, it's got 115mb for maps. So far, it's more than enough for what I'm doing.

You knew it wasn't mac compatable when you bought the thing, most of the world uses PCs for better or worse. Can't blame Garmin if they want to save a buck and not offer software for every OS out there...

Shoulda bought a 76C or CS. nearly 2x the memory and its still a handheld for just a couple bucks extra. Mine holds all of New England and a very good portion of NYS, more than enough memory for what I need to do. An option for you is to install Mapsource on a very large CF card, get a reader and use that on a PC to move map data around. Small USB hard drives also work okay for this job.
