Melbourne Suspension. OH I CAN FEEL THE DIFFERENCE ALREADY!!! !

Hey All

Just looking for local knowledge, looking into upgrading suspension on my 2013 F800gs (has the WP forks). But still soft for my liking, needing something a bit stiffer, with less risk of bottoming out when I push her a bit.

Haven't bottomed yet, but my riding style is bit...... softly softly, ok used to it, now give her the BEANS.

Know about the options Hyperpro/Bitubo/Traxxion AK20/Ohlins/Racetech. Soooooo much info.... But a good local pro is worth their weight in gold...

Anyone in Melbourne know any good suspension workshops or Gurus around?

Be awesome if any other VIC F800 riders had theirs done and happy with the improvement.

Cheers

Jared

Izzy at Suspensions R Us knows his stuff and is a WP agent so you'll get genuine parts.

G'day Jared,

Not sure where you are but ASR down near Arthurs Seat (Mornington Peninsula) is excellent, his product is Wilbers Suspension. Give them a ring, very helpful. This will at least help you to decide what you need.

Ditti Krooztune: they managed to make no discernable difference on my bike, and made a poor bike worse for my wife. They do know how to charge, however...

Hi Jared, Peter from Promecha is currently upgrading the rear shock on my V Strom outfit.

http://www.promecha.com.au/index.html

He was the only suspension expert that said he could rebuild my existing shock, everyone else tried to talk me into buying some whizz bang $1,500 + shock that was, frankly, over kill for my outfit.

Wow, thanks for the replies guys...

tvan/DR-DRZ/Macca: Gave ASR a call, very helpful, happy to chat and work out what I required and informed me what he had and what could be done. Also gave me a tip to fix bottoming out which wouldn't required any purchases or parts from him if I wanted to try a cheaper fix. Nice chap, would be happy to deal with him when time comes to update suspension.

prestonpaul: tried to get a hold of Izzy, no such luck yet...

marlboroughlad/precis: thanks for the heads up, find you can usually tell how your experience will go with a product (normally) by how available/happy they are to listen to what you want and give you information about available products to match one to what you are looking for. Will give them a call and see what they say. (if they give me used car salesman pitch I won't be suprised....)

farqhuar/Touring Dave: will give Krooztune and Promecha a buzz and have a chat...

Great input all, exactly what I was after. Im happy to upgrade springs, oil weight and experiment with that mod before going full cartridge update. Won't be upgrading front forks for a couple weeks due to $ so will have a good ring around and go from there. Now I know who to ring...

Cheers

Live in Kilmore, but have friends near the peninsula and around melbourne so can travel and catch up whilst bike is being done...

Boltons in Kyneton used to have a suspension guy in their workshop as well. Don't know if that's still true but may be worth giving them a call as it's probably the closest option for you.

It's worth checking with Boltons, back in 2000 their suspension guy did magic on my 400 exc that some VERY good suspension gurus had struggled with.

I'm another very happy asr customer, he's a great guy and I'll be taking my guzzi forks to him when I get organised. He built up a fantastic wilburs rear shock for my guzzi.

Anthony Giles operates Choice Suspension out of Boltons in Kyneton. Had him fit my Powercell Performance - Ohlins TTx22 cartridge kit to the 990 last week which got tested on the dirt tracks of CV today - very impressed. Maybe not what the OP is looking for (as far as the kit fitted) but maybe you don't need to travel all the way to the Shitty to get the work done

Cheers,

Another option:

Chad's Offroad Setups in Geelong.

They resprung and re-did the valve stack on my 950.

TOTALLY transformed the bike. Best $600 I ever spent. Not just in terms of being able to it stuff (much) faster, but also real confidence inspiring in terms of control. And just more comfortable too (at least when the going gets rough).

Even better than that, when I called him (Chad) about a YEAR later to ask for some advice, he not only remembered the bike, but spent about half an hour happily chatting away giving me tips on sorting it out. For free.

11/10 stars.
