Destination Peru

The time is nearly here for me to head off to Melbourne airport and catch my flight to the USA .
From San Francisco I am heading to Reno to meet my bike for the first time .
The bike is a 2006 GS with 26000 miles on it . I have only seen photos of her , but she is loaded with farkles
I plan of checking her out and changing the fluids , setting things up a little to suit me . Load her up and do a few little test rides , then head off down and across to Douglas , where I hope to draw on the wealth of wisdom I have tried to absorb into my soft and spongy brain , to cross into Mexico .

Next stop will be Batopilas all going well .

I hope I can get some pictures of at least half the quality of the other RRs on here and provide a little entertainment along the way .

Billy

Have an awesome journey, stay safe, and post lots of pictures! You will be traveling through some of my favorite parts of the planet.

Cheers,

I have made San Francisco , a little smacked around from the flight but pretty smooth transitions through the officialdom at LA . Just a small question about my box of "drugs" Anti malaria , anti Montezuma , anti altitude , anti biotics , anti fungal anti any bug that walks and talks

A nice wander around SF last nice with a local Mate who has been out to race bikes in Aus . Cheers Ed .

Heading out to take a ferry ride and check out what is a beautiful city .
Reno and a first look at "Orchy" tomorrow .

I have been side tracked to visit Laguna Seca , so after taking the train from SF to Reno , the next day headed off to watch the WSB racing . Now back in the Reno area and sorting the bike a little is back on the agenda .
Tried to catch up with JM while there and spent some time looking at all the GS/GSAs in the carparks and checking them for ADV stickers
Still working out how to sort pictures with a Mac , but getting there .
First time riding a boxer BMW and staying on the opposite side of the road to what I have been driving on for the last 37 years is a little daunting .
The 1200 GS is not at all bad after years on sports bikes . Seat is hard but have got an Airhawk pad for it . Bit tall geared and working the indicators is coming along .
Making turns across highways is very spooky right now , concentrating hard and not allowing myself to just ride instinctively is the go .
Had a message from my daughter who is in Guatemala right now . She was on a bus that was ambushed and shot up !!! All on board had hit the floor and handed over wallets and purses . Nobody hurt and I am proud that my girl said she had surprised herself by being calm during the episode .
Still freaking me out a little . Not for my travels but only for her continued safety .

Thanks Gentlemen . And Mr EvilClown , I hope I can be half as entertaining as your good self .

Went for another more spirited ride on the Bimmer today through some twisty sections of road .
Pretty Happy with the way it handles
Also had some paper work sorted with the DMV , the Aussie charm worked well , either that or the nice lady took pity on my Aussie stupidity .

It is quite amusing how some of my expressions that are ingrained in my vocabulary , are just not understood here in the US . Fair enough , they don't resemble English .

I told someone I was a little crook . Surprise surprise , they had to ask what the hell "crook" meant .
Unwell is what I should have said .

Yesterday got my insurance sorted and then down to the DMV and got the registration done . All painless and very economical here in Nevada . Well compared to my home state in Aus , it would have been around 4 or 500 dollars more to change a title and register a bike .
Still had time to do an oil and filter change (no mentioning type of oil ) Not due , since all the fluids were changed less than 2000 miles ago , but easier to do it now .
A bit of wiring to tidied up and bolted on the new plate .
Some gear sorting and deciding what to take and what to leave today .

may I suggest a quick ride up to Vancouver, BC and a day or two hanging with the bunch at the ANZA club there .....

that ought to solve any remaining problems ....
