Day 5, San Francisquito to San Ignacio
Today was going to be pretty smooth and easy with a fairly short ride to San Ignacio so I was really taking my time. I was at beautiful Bahia San Francisquito after all where time slows wayyy down.

Rosa whipped me up some huevos rancheros for breakfast which were a little different than traditional but were very tasty and a few cups of good black coffee.

I hopped on the scoot and rode down a gorgeous road about thirty miles to Rancho Piedra Blanca where I got a tour of the facilities from the owners Talpa and Hiram. They are super nice folks that built this place and just waiting for travelers to stop by.

I rode on down to Vizcaino for some food and gas then slabbed it on down to San Ignacio though I couldn't pass up a few miles of the fun roly poly two track parlleling the hwy, even passing a couple of cars full of dirt bike enthusiasts along the way that were cheering me on

Huevos rancheros...Yum

Easy riding today

That's Rancho Piedra Blanca behind the sign

Miram with Talpa in the background. Nice place and good people

They even have internet service way out here (for those in the need)

A kitchen and a big dining table. "Build it and they will come" is in effect here.

Twist it!

This is some hacked out old Baja 1000 course

Time to crush some tacos

That's about $1.22 a taco. Dang inflation, I'll have 30!

Ignacio Lagoon

Looking through San Ignacios town square at the mission

Love this photo

This town is such a peacefull sanctuary. It always feels good getting and being here.

Could you take the time to post the gps coordinates of Rancho Piedra Blanca.

I've been close many times-------people tell me how to get there--what signs to look for etc.---just never happend. Would be nice to have the coordinates.

Thanks BigDog

I thought you stole "MY" EXC for a moment.

If your bike weighs more than 400lbs. You might not make it.

Big Dog, here's the coordinates: 28 11.65N 113 12.65w
It's a nice place to stop for the night but with BSF only 30 miles up the road, that's got to put a damper on business.

Nice bike, it looks ready to roll .

Earth Quake Damage at PSF

Thanks for the Baja RR, I'll be there this Winter for a few months on my G650X.

I've Flown and Sail'd Baja for many years and now plan to ride it as well. If you have more pix of the damage at PSF I like to see them.

Actually, you don't see much damage any more. Just the one building in the photo. Have a good trip this winter.

Day 6 San Ignacio to Mulege

We had coffee at a cart on the corner of the town square getting primed up for a big day of riding. Paul would ride along with me for a few days to La Paz while Pauly would drive the truck to the town we would be staying at each night and get our rooms for us. Tonight would be Mulege.

We rode on down through La Laguna to El Datil (about 70 miles) to top with gas and round up some breakfast. We were mobbed by little kids yelling wheely! and sticka sticka! I couldn't ride much of a wheely because of the duffle bag behind my butt, but I had plenty of stickers. We were escorted into a little shack where breakfast was made and served to us at their kitchen table.

We tried a trail that I spied on GE from San Jose de Gracia headed north to the canyon we wanted to go up through San Juan de La Pila. It takes a lot to turn me around but after going up it about a mile, I tucked tail. It was completely rock and rut filled and I didn't know how long this would last as it was 20mi long.

We rode on up to El Patrocino and once again topped off with gas. Martin told us that the canyon above San Juan de La Pila was completely washed out so we opted to take the canyon that ran somewhat parallel to the north of it and it would join up with the original canyon a bit to the east.
This was a long beautiful canyon with tall cliffs and some water in it and a few ranchos. We stopped and talked to a couple of them and gave a lady a large instant coffee that I had planned to give to Maria at La Pila. It is a long and difficult drive to get to a store from here (2 days round trip) at least.

The road went over two mtn ranges and deteriorated the furter we went into the mtns. We eventually got over the top and headed down the other side into Mulege, the last 10 miles in the dark.

A bit circuitous

The coffee cart in San Ignacio

Ripping down to El Datil

Breakfast almost ready!

Martin at El Patrocino gassing us up

Riding up the canyon

Heading up the mountains

Getting good now!

Where we came from

Nobody has been here for a while. Just an old knobby track here and there

Heading down the east side towards Mulege

Rolling into Mulege

End Day 6

Moto Vaquero, thank you for providing a Baja fix until I can get down there again in November. If you were there around Semana Santa, we might have crossed paths somewhere around San Felipe/Gonzaga Bay. The photos of San Francisquito are great - one of my favorite places of many favorite places in Baja. And the kids in El Datil are a hoot - they are some of the most enthusiastic sticker grabbers on the peninsula!
