1150 GS Ohlins

O-pro,
Bought a 04 1150 GS in 2013 year from inmate tobz and have put 3500 since purchase. Shortly before purchasing, he put Ohlins front and rear on. At this point the shocks have between 4 and 5k on them in my estimation.
Fastforward to last week.
Came out to the garage to find the front shock bleeding rather moderately. My research shows that manufacturer recs suggest rebuilds between 10 and 12k.
I was wondering if you could offer some insight as to what happened, or more importantly, how to proceed.
Don't know if it matters, but Tobz gave me the original boxes and here is a picture of the information tag for the front shock:

Obviously, it will need to be rebuilt but I just wanted to get your thoughts on if there is any way around paying for the rebuilt being as though the unit has not even made it to the recommended servicing interval. The bike is ridden on pavement only in a civilized manner!!
Thanks for your time.

mj

Hi Mr MJ!

Was Tobz a Smoker? because that label seems to have Second-Hand-smoked about 3 packs of Unfiltered Marlboro's a day-

Just Send it in ,WE can Help!

(Not Sure if Our Customer by the CB Handle-
Date of Purchase is by customers real last Name on their invoice ,etc. but send in with their Last Name Since You Bought the Bike you most likely would know, if the real customer purchased from us we can verify settings, rider weight, springs used, etc. and see how that compares to your weight etc.)

EXCELLENT TOPIC CONSERNING WHY THINGS LEAK OR WHEN TO YOUR SUSPENSION DONE !

"Less Than 15 k is Always the Way!"

We can Tell By the Smell if Your Shock Ain't Feeling Well.....

HERE'S WHAT HAPPENS TO SUSPENSION FLUID ON ALL BRANDS OF HIGH QUALITY REPLACEMENT SHOCKS with Best fluids

(Not The Stock Shocks with the standard foamy Tuna Fish Oil Filled Shocks that Last 7k-12k)

Shown below Some Fluid Examples from real Shocks that are of high Quality Replacement shocks with the best Fluid

Most all brands of HIGH QUALITY REPLACEMENT SHOCKS With HIGHEST QUALITY FLUIDS (Stock Shocks Don't even Last This Long)

Go with a 15k-20k Service Interval MAX on the Very long side (Better if much Less than 15k obviously! )
OR aproximatly 36 months to 60 months on average if bike more dorment. ( AND DEFINITLY PRIOR TO LEAVING ON A GLOBAL CAMPING JOURNEY,FRESHEN UP TO AVOID EMERGENCY'S ON THE TRIP )

(Note: One brand called Nitron Shocks Promo is Service/Rebuild Every 24 months MAX or less (and 20k or less) to Extend warranty on Hard parts Indefinetly. )

The Above Example Shows :

(LEFT PIC) Brand New Fluid

(MIDDLE PIC) , 15k-20k Fluid on

(RIGHT PIC) 25K+ PLUS MILES, COMPLETLY WASTED "Oh-My-G Customer needed Everything,TOXIC WASTE!

READ:

SO AS YOU CAN SEE, IT WOULD BE BEST TO HAVE YOUR SUSPENSION FLUIDS AND REBUILDS DONE WELL BEFORE 15k MILES or LESS !!!

CC:

Or LESS!

(Only TTX designs live Longer because fluid only goes directional thru twin wall design)

AFTER SPILLIN and REBUILDEN for 30 Years , thousands of shocks , we can practically tell how many Years and/or miles are on a Shock Of Any Brand before the customer even tells us.

Foot Note:(S)
Some Small residual oil/film line on any shocks shaft may not be an actual (Oh-My-Goodness!) "Leak", "half a Shot glass full of fluid" usually is , common exposer , storage lack of use, dirt grime, and or temperature swings (especially real cold/real long), shaft pitted or tiny spec from road gravel, is most common reasons for any shock leak. Yes After a Fresh rebuild You MAy see some Residual Film "Seal-Prep" on any shock for a while, (It just makes the MAin Seals break-in Nicer).

FYI:
ALL BRANDS EXCLUDE Oil LEAKS and Dirty Oil as a Warranty because they feel its Typical maintence, Not a Defect, (like changing Car engine Oil & filter at 3k-7k)(Or having to replace a New car battery every 36-48 months because they just go dead) Say Whhhaattt?????%@#$

GUESS WHAT:
Because We Service what we sell for many years,
WE HAVE OUR OWN GOOD WILL SEAL WARRANTY WHEN ANYTHING IS PURCHASED FROM US ! , Just BECAUSE So few Shocks (Of Any Brand we sell ) Will Ever Leak Prematurely, Like in Less Than a two years or so , Its No overwelming amount that is ever a real Issue (NOT Just Seal Prep on The Shaft , A Real Puddle)

Shown Below A Brand New Set with 5 Year Warranty (Longest OF ANY BRAND)

Shown below a Fully Wasted Set With Toxic Black Remains Of What may have been Fluid (RIDDEN TO "MARS-AND-BACK" )

AND Another THING,

THE CLEANER YOU CAN KEEP YOUR Shocks/SHAFTS(Unlike Above) The Less Likely they Will Pit from minerals and Toxic Dirt, and far Less Likely That the SEAL will DRAG THRU THE FOCILZED-DRY Muck Left on The Shaft causing a Leak Or Worn Seal head Assembly the Next time you Ride.

(Just how Far is 15k Miles? .....MAybe 5x The trans labby abck and Forth in the mud? or

Pack Up Your Camping Gear And Ride Some Nice Two Lane bumpy twisty From N.Y to Los Angelas, BAck to Boston MAss. , Then Out the North route To Portland Oregon, then back EAst and Down to Miami Florida, then Back West to San Deigo California - Hey Thats Only 14,669.00Miles! you Still HAve 331 Miles Before My Shock Fluid Expires!)

So ,

Bottom Line, All is Good, Never Worry, We-got-Diss-Suspension-All-Day-Stuff Figured Out

What are your shock options for a 2007 Suzuki Bandit 650? Not sold in the US, but should be similar to the 2008 GSX650F sold in the US.

Cheers!
