Caught you--------you was flippin' thru the pictures wasn't you ???

He had to go home Nice Rumble------He rode out with me but had only about 7 days to spend with us---and that included riding back to Cortez to catch a plane home----then I hauled his bike home----he lives near me.

He never did tell, but his plane ride was a fiasco, as those storms that were hammering Colorado ended up canceling his flight. So it took a while for him to get back home.

we missed him---and now we are missing his great video's.

I finally got caught up.
Great report Mark!
Your DVD of the 950's got under my skin and I sold the big BMW and got a 990. Pretty big but it needs to commute still. Couple more years and I'll get a little bike and go explore.

Thanks for hauling us cube dwellers along with you all. As always top stuff from your reports.

Great Day 7

Have to say that day 7 was one of the best! Mark truly is the master trip planner. 3 corners was the highlight and it's a miracle that none of us old guys vapor locked climbing the hill to the corner marker. I guess the survivors could have just rolled the body back down the hill and called the coroner! Day 8 was wet but didn't cause any major problems and the swinging bridge and Vermilion Falls were pretty cool to see. The hotel in Maybell was something special and the DR650 riders (Richard, Mike, Tim, Charlie and Gene?) were nice folks with great stories to share. I hope we cross paths again. Bud

We were across that swinging bridge last fall on a big loop of the west.

We went north out of Kemmerer up Grey's River road towards Alpine. Great ride.

John----I think of all the thousands of old bridges I've seen and admired over my lifetime-------------that one is my favorite.

The first time I was there it was closed for repairs-----they were getting ready to pour a new hunk of concrete in the ground to anchor the big steel cables. Now it's all done of course.

Day 9 September 9th, 2013

Day 9

Maybell, Colorado to Motel in Eagle, Colorado

A lot of today was spent trying to get back to the Colorado BDR---but we had already been forced South a lot.
We would have had to wait a week to ride what we wanted to -----------till it dried out--------if it didn't rain anymore.
So we head West to Steamboat, Springs to intersect the COBDR---then South on it.

This dirt road following right along the Colorado river went on for miles and miles and was awesome.
It was wet out--no dust---but not raining.

This guy was all alone---------well-------------he had his best friend.
I admired this guy----if something went wrong he had nobody to help him.
He would probably be happy dying on his raft---just as I would on my motorcycle.

The next few pictures are awesome---but we were there !!!!!!
I hope they take you there.

We turned off the main road onto Trail Gulch Road and I asked this guy how the road was over the mountains.
He didn't know as he hadn't went very far down the road---and it looked like it was going to dump on us bigtime.

Just after the truck we ran into these guys-------I forget the names---but the guy on the right is riding a 2-wheel drive 950 and the last time
I saw him was in Alaska 2 years ago-----he remembered me--how could you forget an old man who rode a 250 to Alaska with his buddy.

The fellow in front in the yellow helmet told me to turn around. Over the mountain it was the worst mud he'd ever seen and they
had a terrible time getting thru it having to pick up their bikes many times. It was a work out and I'll never forget what he said to me.
"I have nothing left"

I could see it in his eyes and we turned around and took the big easy dirt and gravel road into Eagle
as there was no place to stay in Gypsum.
Eagle was one of those towns so busy and so much traffic I never want to see that place again.

A map of our route today after we turned South at Steamboat.
About 170 miles today.

I'm taking off on my bike in a few minutes.
Don't know when I'll get back to finish this---but I will

I remember seeing CJ's bike and its aluminum fuel tank at the KTM ralley in Steamboat. What day are you on this ride, Mark? Maybe we just missed each other.

Thumb Great report - keep it coming!

Loving the report. Thanks for taking us to Three Corners!
The ride was historic for coinciding with the record rains in Colorado. Some areas will be changed for decades.

It has been fun to ride along. A few roads I have been on, more that I will be.

Even though i never get tired of the western expanse Im Sorry Basher, the three old, not slow guys at the three corners is the best shot of the report.

Come on over and ride again sometime Big Dog, I found some new off the grid roads.
