I'm for sure ready for another one of your adventures Mark. I've roamed about lots of that country over the years but mostly on the pavement with just a bit of dirt being on R11**GS's and the Bandit 1250S and solo. Fixing to start a new way of traveling this next year ( if the shoulder that I messed up in Texas this year gets healed enuff ) of carring the KLR on the back hitch of my truck and sleeping in it at select base camps and roaming on the KLR.
I'll be saving your track files on this area as I'd love to do more dirt roads out there.
Waiting on the next . Bring it on!

No---not in 8 days------------unless your were flying----and nothing ever happened-----and lots of stuff will. You'd be way better off relaxing---slowing down and doing one state in 8 days.
Linking the routes together at the bottom is a day---and linking them together at the top is at least 2 days. So there is 3 days shot.--------well not shot.

Figured you'd say that. Well, we will continue to work on routes. I wouldn't want to try it any faster than you did, I know you don't waste time. Was this a 2 1/2 - 3 week trip? I need to retire.

I will get to Muley Point someday though. What a place!

In so I can steal some ideas Thanks for sharing the tracks Mark! I know how much work goes into them and the ride report.

It's always good to have another Big Dog trip report to read. This one will be particularly interesting to follow as armchrmtrcylst and I just got back from riding the UTBDR (or about 90% of it) about two weeks ago.

What were the dates of your trip and when were you on the UTBDR? I'm guessing it was about the same time as us since we were dodging some sketchy weather too. We generally got lucky but had a bit of interesting weather-related riding...

We were just 3 says behind you uaing same tracks, and the only dry day was the 3rd day. We started in buena vista heading south. We did groundhog reservoir to muley point, close to 300 miles but beautiful.

Monsoon was definitely the theme of our ride except for this day.

Keep it up mark. Those of us that work have to have something to read.

I'm in for some more Bigdog/Dingweeds inspiration. Hope to do both of these BDR's in the future.

Day 1 & before...

First and foremost.. I had to get out to Cortez, CO.. so I called a cab:

and look who answered the call.. BigDog and "Mercedes"....

We headed to LittleBigDog's house for the night then.. all day driving out of KS to CO... well some of us drove

We got to Jeff's in a manageable hour and were instantly treated with down-home hospitality.. it was awesome!!! We got to bed and geared up in the morning... stopped for gas and had to fight a pump for what seemed like hours, or maybe it was the fact we were ready to ride!!

Finally.. we were headed for our route..

Finally.... off the tarmac!! Time to let it hang out....

And Bud was happy! Why you ask... cuz I have come to believe Bud was born on a KTM.. I just know it. He's smiling from ear to ear under that visor!

We saw sooo many wild horses during this stretch.. in fact, one herd nearly took Bud out.. I saw the dust cloud to my right as I passed them, then in my mirror I saw it cross the road just as Bud & Dingweed were entering... I thought "OH NO!!! Stampede !!" But ..... as I kept watching.. thru the cloud of dust, I saw headlights.. and my buddies made it..shew!

Jeff keep'n his eye out on those varmets..

BigDog telling a story about something.. I can't remember all the stories I heard on this trip.. it was awesome! I spent a good 20 hrs listening to BigDog tell stories or snore.. I really enjoy every single one of them.. and got to hear a few colorful twists from his son when we stayed at his place. Don't worry BigDog, your secrets are safe with me!

Utah beginning to surface for us....

Even the tarmac is good out here!

Headed towards Valley of the Gods....
