Like I said before, if it makes you feel better then run one. However to make a claim that it saves your ass once a month is quite bold and based on nothing more than a guess because your detector goes off is just ridiculous.

Let me make a bold / ridiculous statement of my own. Just because you pass a cop doesnt mean certain ticket.

what if the cop pulls over the car that passed you as you slowed due to detector going off?

I get one of those every six months.

DING-DING-DING, we have a winner!

I'm on the road 8 to 10 hours a day, and agree with this 100%, watching the traffic ahead is very informative.

That was before I had a detector on my bike, but I'm sure it would have alerted me.

You should have asked him if he knew why they station Marines aboard Navy ships.

I get those too without a radar detector.

I imagine his response would have been similar to that of Kiefer Sutherland (playing a Marine) in A Few Good Men; "I like all you Navy boys. Every time we got to go someplace to fight, you fellas always give us a ride."

Until 3 months ago I hadn't been pulled over in the last 33 YEARS.

Then (while leading another inmate B4 her epic cc + cc ride) I spaced and missed the trooper sitting off the road on the opposite side. crap! 12 over and we got the full light show pull-over.

Felt like shit getting caught, 'specially while leading a visitor through my own state.

RD is on my to do list before next spring. Hello Escort?

It would have helped this STUPID brain fade stop.

But I also find myself riding at 15+ over (lots of empty road here) and would like to avoid another......

If you physically attach it to your bike, such as the "stealth" installation that has been suggested in this thread, I don't think it would be impossible for your whole bike to be confiscated!

Let's be careful out there! -John
Also illegal in IL. Take it off and put it in your tankbag or lose it and get ticketed there. Posted right at the state line.

Wrong

Radar detectors are completely legal to use in non-commercial vehicles in 49 states. Virginia and Washington DC are the only places in the United States that currently ban radar detectors. Radar detector use in commercial vehicles has been prohibited in the U.S. since 1995

I use a radar detector as a self check. It goes off, I double check my speed and make sure I haven't crept up to a speed that would get me ticketed.
Does it save my ass? Don't know as I have never been going fast enough to warrant a ticket when it has gone off.
Does it make me double check my speed periodically to ensure I remain in that "safe" zone? Absolutely.

To think that a radar detector is going to save you is nave at best.

I don't speed much, but when I do I don't want a gift from the local authorities.

USAA is very touchy about how many tickets you get!

Lots of mounts out there. Tech mounts are good quality.

OOPS.... my bad! I only saw the first 2 sentences as I rode by this sign in Savannah, IL in the middle of a turn.

I figure 1 thing for sure.... If a LEO catches you speeding with one ON you will get a ticket for sure. Looks like you planned to be speeding IMO
