Much of this thread would fit right into The Arguement Clinic sketch!

I don't want to wish anything bad on anyone, but, those of you who think that you would have remained calm and proceeded with caution and avoided all chance of injury, to yourself or others, have never faced a situation where you felt your life was in danger by an unknown predator. The intimidation factor of 5, 10, 15, or more hooligans surrounding you and your family is a strong incentive to leave, no matter the cost to life or limb.

If there was previous interaction, Lien was probably nervous and intimidated before the first videoed stop took place. Just having your vehicle surrounded by bikers on a major highway would be enough to terrify most people. To be stopped forcefully ups the ante.

Being a cyclist might make us respond differently, but I can't imagine trying to brake check an SUV, so anyone who would do that to me I would have to take seriously as a threat, and stopping would not be my first choice of things to do, especially if there were multiple riders.

Lien might have stopped, thinking the situation could be handled in an appropriate manner, then discovered that those around him had other ideas.

To not assume a similar situation as threatening would be foolhardy.

I don't think I will ever view aggressive driving in a cage or on a bike in the same light as before this incident. The Times They Are A-Changing. There are those who have no respect for the law and are quite willing to exploit weakness where they find it.

You demonstrate on a regular basis that one does not need an SUV or a horrifying motorcycle to run somebody down.

Don't walk in front of vehicles on the highway? Seems pretty easy to me to stay out of the way. I haven't been hit yet.

At least now that I thought about what would be best to do, my chances to stay calm have increased quite a bit.

Well, if I was in a SUV it wouldn't come to my mind, that a bike in front of me slightly slowing down would be a threat. Up to that point in the video I would think he just want's to - stupidly - show of in front of his friends. Accordingly I would slightly slow down as well until they leave me be.

I suddenly have a new respect for Margaret!

And you, Mr. Montague are clearly afflicted, as I, with the irreverent sillyness of Monty Pyhton! To you I tip my Shoei.

"and fart in your general direction!"
