Having read all three pages so far, there have been some good arguments both for & against MRA. I, along with others have noticed the increase in trailers & motorhomes/campers vs earlier years. That said, if you want to get into the really gnarly dirt trails, a lighter bike beats a heavy one. The downside is that the lighter bike is much less fun to ride getting there.

So. Enough of that... I vote for having the 10th at MRA which gives everyone a chance to come up with an alternate venue that has all/most of the amenities of the current one.

I ride a street bike, so having it 12 miles down a dirt road might be cause for me to pass on the adventure. The Kern area has both dirt & road rides to suit any appetite--take your choice.

Like Gary, I enjoy the area but go mostly to see old friends & have a good time with good riding both going & coming.

Actually, the NorCal Range of Light Gypsy Tour is quite adventurous. Each year the locations and routes are a surprise, there are optional off road GS routes and there are no RVs.

The numbers have been dropping off every year probably because some people have been to the Kernville site too many times. Been there done that, got the 9 t-shirts, 4 mugs, 8 stickers and ridden every dirt road in the area. I'd like to be adventurous and ride in some other place I've never been, drink a different local beer and make some new friends.

Change is good. Let's explore.
The numbers have not been dropping. Last year was the only year they dropped. Every other year we have turned people away. Or went over the number alloted to us and turned a blind eye. Even the year it happened over Easter weekend.

The rest of what you've said, I understand. Trying something new is fun and interesting. But, does that make WARPED in Kernville a bad thing?

Maybe consider joining the BMW NorCal riding group and attending one of their events, that way one can cut the Adventure out of riding almost entirely.

I wont design the event so you cant trailer or bring your RV, but I'm not going to curtail the event so that those who wont ride to the event can come. Given the fact that some members bring their families in their RV's, it is bad form to simply alienate people based solely on their mode of transportation.

Is WARPED now just like all the standard old man BMW ralley's where some people show up not to ride, but to just hang out drink and where one is such a princess that one cant go camping for an entire weekend with out a shower?
Remember, the name of the event is WARPED, ie Western Adventure Rider Party and Endurance Drinking event. Granted, I was not at the first three WARPED events, but my understanding is that was exactly the idea of WARPED. Come, hang out with friends and drink. Not, "we're doing hardcore riding." Kermit races used to be mandatory.

Also, a lot of us are OLDER than you and we like our fucking comforts. I've spent enough time not showering, not having a beer at the end of the day and generally being harder than woodpecker lips. I still do that sometimes, but not at WARPED.

No, I dont have the luxury and convenience of the ride to Kernville as a simple 1-3 hour afternoon ride, so making it up there for an afternoon is not appealing, so yes, I did miss one year due to personal and mechanical reasons. The other 8 I did attend, so I'm no noOb to what goes on.
No worries on you not being there last year. You had your reasons. But to propose to change the whole damn event without checking in with the people who attend seems a bit arrogant. Like you're saying, "I know what's better, regardless of what the people who attend it want." To me, that's not cool. You want to change things up, and the attendees agree - fine. You kill the event by changing things without seeing if the attendess want it changed, not cool.

Look, if you want to do something different, and everyone else wants to do WARPED X at MRA, then please, go do your something different and we'll do WARPED at MRA.

I don't go to WARPED as an "adventure" ride. I go to hang out with friends and chill for a weekend. Adventure and chill don't really go well together. I get adventure in the other rides I do during the year.

Roger that. Overwhelmingly it would seem members want to do the same thing, 10 years in a row, even though California has some of the most amazing riding country, the event will remain in the exact same place.

I volunteered to run the show with certain expectations of this event and it's attendees. Given the above information, in an effort to bring a swift end to this entire thread I respectfully bow out of this opportunity and suggest an alternate organizer be located. Enjoy WARPED X.

My fault on the tee-shirts. Longtallsally - DM me your address and I'll getting them out this week. I'll even throw in the last cup by way of apology.
Like I said, no reflection on past management- thus no whinging from me. I'll send you a note. But heck, we never got around to getting together for that ride in the first place!

But keeping on task, screw the socal crew if they can't ride (or tow) a couple hundred extra miles.

I personally think we move it back a couple months and do it somewhere off 108 if everyone is too pansy to make it to say Walker Lake.

The discussion has been really good, again with good points on both sides. I didn't vote as I'll be happy wherever. Riding is better than working. We all have our definition of adventure and relaxation and the combo of each that lets us recharge and face the crap of living in this politically retarded state.

That said, where are we going?

Just for histories sake, the first Warped, although not called that, was held at Song Dog Ranch. And, that was still to this date, one of the best ADV events that I have been to. I know that it is supposedly closed, but I do know that it is open for private parties. Not sure if it can be done, but just a suggestion for a place which is situated basically the same as Kernville, as far as norcal-socal distances are concerned. And there is a lot of riding out near there too, just not the amenities. Just a thought.

I honestly wouldn't mind doing it. I have a formally trained chef wife, proper equipment for whatever the situation, and like hanging out with you FFs.

The only problems are:
1) If we do this MRA place again, I can't afford to front the money and then chase everyone down to make sure I'm not broke (we are planning on buying a house in the coming months).

2) I simply don't have the time. Between a 19 month old and a very stressful job in the software industry, I'm pretty tapped out. The only reason it seems like I have a lot of time as a keyboard cowboy is b/c I work from home and have a personal computer literally right next to my work machine.

I actually think it would be kinda fun (despite the fact that some folks may see my style of PM as a bit harsh), but the family comes first.

So instead I'll just sit back and offer unasked for advice and bantor along... :)
