Funny you posted this.

This morning while it was still below 20 and the ground was frozen, I set up my tent to test out a new sleeping bag I got, a Big Agnes Encampment 15 deg bag. It has no insulation on the bottom so it requires a pad with some insulating properties, that can slip into the pocket on the bottom. I have a Thermarest Trail Pro which has an R rating of 4.8 which I thought might be too little for this bag. It wasn't. I napped for about an hour and a half before I was satisfied that it would suffice for LF. The bag packs down smaller than a 40 deg bag I have. My feet got a little chilly but I'll just pack some thick socks for sleeping.
BTW, the stream at LF is easier to fall asleep next to than the sound of Three Chopt Road.

Not to come across like some fu_k'n genius, but many of us fare rather well w/our feathered bags by taking steps in keeping them dry.

I always use a down bag, it's not a problem if I remember to get up to pee.
I will have the ramp washer and the hose kit for the spring.

i dont think anything beats the usmc modular system. i went to bed soaking wet on Mt Fugi and woke up dry and burried in the snow. packs small. i rarely need the heavy black outer bag, i usually only carry the light inner (patroll) bag. comes with bivy sack if you dont wanna pack a tent. and the price is right

"Many of us" does not include our buddy Dan who will figure out a way to wake up floating on water in his down bag - at least until the bag soaks through and he sinks.

I slept rather well at LF last year with a simple down quilt - a two piece, an over and an under.
