Video Ride to Jefferson Lake at 10,669ft.

Haven't parked a vid here in awhile. Had some paperwork to read/edit today and decided to do it somewhere other than my desk. Woe is me. Beautiful day outside. Time for lunch too. Sooooo, had not been up to nearby Jefferson Lake in years. Used to fish for browns and rainbows there. Now I want to do it again. Connected the helmet cam. Highlights of the dual sport journey are distilled to a five minute video. If you have broadband...

Onboard Video Ride to Jefferson Lake

The imagery is in the vid, but a little background/perspective and one pic below. Here's the topo of the area (The twin tall peaks on the horizon would be the fourteeners Gray's and Torrey's):

And here's the road map with video noted locations pinned:

A sneak preview image, the destination:

Thanks, I find myself watching it again and again, noticing something new each time.

A reason a GS is in the barn -- for these kinds of roads and rides nearby!

Great vid. I especially enjoyed the relaxed pace and the music to go along with it. Thanks for the topos, too.

Factoid - If you haven't discovered the homemade fudge sold at the Jefferson store, you have missed a real treat. It's some of the best ever.

Thank you for posting your ride! It was relaxing, just what I needed after a busy day that was to say the least a bit busy.

Thanx again!

Thanks everyone, and that Jefferson Market store is where I had a killer BLT lunch following this Jefferson Lake excursion. They now ship their fudge to several stores/places but they aren't very active marketing it.

South Park is great for dual-sport exploration.

That was a great video. One thing that I might have added was the sound of your bike if you can capture it. Just mixed in under the music. Would have been nice to hear the bike going through the gears through the mountains. Great video though. Was a welcome break from removing wallpaper in my house.

That was a damn fine piece of work there. I liked the music...kind of felt like I was in a national monument gift shop where they sell the independent Indian music CD's.
Beautiful lake. Very blue water. Good way to spend a day.

Excelent. Thank you for sharing.

Can you tell me a little about your video equipement? Do you have pics of how you rig it? I just got some bullet camera, that I rig to my camcorder in my back pack, but I'm not really happy with it, too much stuff flying around.

BigBear... This is one of the downsides of a helmet cam... spaghetti network of cables and such. So, I usually stuff all the video gear into a tank bag, with a single cable coming out to the bullet cam I have velcro'd
(industrial version) to the side of the helmet.

Advantages of this include being able to look around for the viewer and minimal vibration (especially for a dual-sport ride). Plus, dual sport consoles/speedos are typically high, and the screen not that clear, making a recording from a gas cap ring mount (or elsewhere) a challenge. Hey, I'm in Geneva often and may be wandering your way on a two wheel rental out of Lausanne one of these days.

Asphalt... the accompanying music (Peter Kater and R. Carlos Nakai (American Indian Flute) was more a selection because the song lasted as long as the video, versus being a perfect fit!
