Meanwhile over at the AUTO SS4

07:34 Cars: The car special is underway!
Nani Roma started today's special at 7:20 am local time. He will first tackle a 211 km timed section, then a 111 km neutralised sector raced at a link section pace, and then another timed section, this one 205 km long. Will Stéphane Peterhansel and Carlos Sainz be able use their relatively late starting times to catapult themselves back to the top of the classification?
07:44 Cars: Keeping an eye on beyond the top 10

Marek Dąbrowski has been able to maintain his consistency and ability to fly under the radar as a motorcycle rider following his transition to the car category. He clearly has not lost his effectiveness either, as he sat in 13th place overall this morning, 53'32' down. His prospects of achieving, at least, a place in the final top 10 look really good. The battle for 17th among Boris Garafulic, Laurent Fouquet and Adam Małysz is also set to be an interesting one.
08:00 Cars: Keeping an eye on beyond the top 20

A Chinese driver in the top 30 Yong Zhou from Beijing currently sits in 27th place, 2 h 07'24' behind the leader. His aim is to do better than in 2005, when he finished 19th overall, but he will have to see off former motorcycle rider Eric Bernard, who is driving his Nissan Trio buggy solo. The Frenchman, meanwhile, is waging a very close battle with fellow countryman Guerlain Chicherit as the later seeks to claw his way back up the classification after a dismal start to the rally

    • 08:47 Cars: just like Chicherit

Frenchman Guerlain Chicherit and his Corvette-powered buggy have also remained at a standstill for over 20 minutes, 65 km into today's special. The former ski champion's mechanical problems also seem serious.
    • 08:40 Cars: Poulter in dire straits

South African Leeroy Poulter's Toyota has remained at a standstill at km 47 for over 20 minutes now. This is much longer than what it takes to change a tyre and suggests the Toyota's problems are serious.
    • 08:32 Cars: Peterhansel loses about 5 minutes

And now it is Stéphane Peterhansel's Mini which has ground to a halt for five minutes, just before km 28 of today's special. Is he having trouble with the course or was it simply a puncture?
    • 08:23 Cars: Chicherit stops too

65 km into today's special, it is now Guerlain Chicherit's turn to stop in a rugged area. The reason for this is still unknown.
    • 08:21 Cars: Poulter at a standstill

Leeroy Poulter was riding among the leaders after a good start to today's stage, but he has had to stop just outside the main course, 48 km into the special. A flat tyre, maybe?

Looking at the withdrawal list, I noticed two truck and several car teams were DQ'd. Anyone know why? Are the expulsions reasons listed anywhere?

I know of a car coming in after the cut off time and it was DQ for that, still to find the reasons just like yourself for the other..Should be in the daily results, no? @Troy?

Bill, once upon a time in the "reason" list (at least the printed ones) they would put the art.no from the table of penalties in the Regulations, for the applicable offence/penalty.

From the website withdrawal list, it seems all the "withdrawals" so far fall into three categories: not starting (I take that to mean did not make it to the DSS/start of the particular Days Stage in time and not permitted to start = DNS) withdrawal (either declined or were unable to complete a stage = DNF) or expulsion (for the breach of some regulation they were excluded from the rally by the officials = DQ)

But as you say, the actual rule or regulation that was broken, there is no indication of, and I looked in all the places I could think of (competitor record, stage summary etc.) and canät find any more detail than that... sorry?

BC61 got me looking at the Withdrawal List...I noticed yesterday that the Brenthel Industries car of Peter Hajas wasn't listed in the DSS for yesterday.

    3 346 BRENTHEL INDUSTRIES
    not starting

They were the winners of the Score Dakar Challenge. More info here: http://www.dakar.com/dakar/2014/us/rider/346.html

I know less than nothing about driving one of those trucks, but it seems the driver of the cabover displays some pretty questionable line choice in both videos.
