i get maximum life out of the maxxis and with a super stiff sidewall it's hard to pinch-flat them.i hate changing tires,so i stick with those that last a long time if they work well.they also don't fold up off the rim when you flat them, like the irc and others do.

I like the Maxxis too, but man do they howl! So far the XR has put 2500 miles on them. I think I am gonna run Pirelli mt90s next just for the better highway manners.

What are you looking to do with them?

I used K761s on my KLR as road tires for the last thousand or so miles before I decomissioned the KLR from road duty. If I wanted road tires for a KLR or similar bike, that's what I'd go with. The rubber in K761s and K270s is very nicely sticky, and the K761s work better off road than their tread pattern would suggest. Don't know about longevity, but I haven't heard anyone complain.

K270s are good cheap tires that work decently on and off road, and last 3k - 5k miles on the rear of a KLR. They howl on the highway and squirm when leaned over, but are generally predictable and dependable. They aren't directional so you can spin them around to get some extra mileage if they're wearing unevenly.

Cheers,

-Lujo

I would say around 3500 miles is about it, all pavement that is and that is on a XR a heavier bike may get less. I will add this watch you power delivery in the tight turns I can step out the back at will on my bike, and its not a power house.

I'm running Maxxis 6006s front and rear on my XRL, and have about 3000 miles on the set, including 1500 miles or so of Baja. They're no where close to the wear indicators, but are getting a little worn for my liking. I'll probably replace them both after a 1000mile trip I have coming up at the end of the month.

I've really liked them. Good all around, dirt biased DOT tire, with OK highway manners.

thanks alot for all your responses

I was thinking on usong then on my mx trip. I'll keep my brigestones till they wear off and then use the others. I don't know how long my mx trip will be since it's more a question of budget then time frame and places to go. I'm hoping 5K miles range that's about 8000km should be good.

I was also thinking of brigestone tw41 and tw 42 front and rear!
any thoughts?

The kenda 271 is the only tire mentioned that will get you 5k for sure. I got 6k on my heavily loaded KLR with the 271 rear, it was really noisy on the pavement for the first 2k but killer on the dirt. the Maxxi 6006 lasted me 3500...

You guys probably know each other

So you know what Mehigh is riding and what type of riding he's doing

I had Maxxis on my R100GS and love them for dirt and gravel. Not bad on the pavement but makes bending into a corner hard something you have to get used to.

I switched to Distanzia for my trip to Newfoundland this summer. 5,500 miles and going strong. They feel OK in gravel. A good trade off if you're going to mostly road.

I got about 3k on my Maxxis
