Well, since we're all posting pics here...

The night before your ride you can start like this, as California girls are always down to help out:

The morning of your ride, you can enjoy true untouched nature by surfing (sorry about the arrows, apparently if you download your own content from facebook, you're not allowed to embed it directly):

Then you can ride one of the most technically challenging and interesting paved roads around from about sea level to 5,500 feet in short order:

To see this. Telescopes might not be your thing, but the fact that it's there means the geography is cool and there's little pollution:

 photo IMG_20130901_121111_zpscde86e11.jpg

Then you take the long way back on dirt with some with friends:

All in all, wherever you might live and ride likely works for you and that's ok-I'm originally from Minnesota and lived in Montana for a bit-both awesome in their own way.

It's just cool that in California, there is pretty much any type of riding you want to do, all in one day. And if you know what's up, it's not a bad place to live either.

No need to Lane split in NorCal

My .02 is Northern California. No need to lane split cause the big roads don't have that much traffic and when you get off on the secondary roads, the only thing you got to watch out for is Bambi and her mom. Ride from Mt Lassen to the Coast and back in one day if you want. Just saying.

You see a parking lot, I see a bunch of nice people holding my lane wide open for me.

Also, to be fair that is hardly 'normal' or really even common in socal and completely 'not' how most of the state is.

What you can't see in that photo is that they are all going 85!

but c'mon, thats like saying Memphis has no traffic either

lets be fair; nearly half CA more or less lives in that one town...... it's pretty much hell most of the time but if you stay clear of Los Angeles, there are quite a lot of places like this

in fact, thats about 2 hours from Los Angeles proper

The one thing that's become really apparent in this thread is that only Californians have a sense of humor.

I'm still trying to figure out where that might be, the 5/405 by the getty maybe? I'm not seeing any palm trees though so it could be Brazil or Europe for all I know.

No photoshop. A real place with a real camera.

The presidential motorcade will avoid the 405, so named because it usually takes four or five hours to get anywhere during the evening rush hour. It won’t matter: most of the commuters on the West Side need to use the same streets as the president’s motorcade to get to the 405.
Suggestion to L.A. commuters: during Carobamageddon, call in sick or take a couple of vacation days on Monday and Tuesday. You can thank Mad Mike’s America after you get over the traffic.

Same location different day.

I've lived in Grand Junction, Co. for several years. I have always found epic rides out of the snow zone within an hour drive from home....GJ is sooo close to everything.
