OiLibya Morocco Rally 2013
Stage 2, Jbel en Jbel, 298 km in total, 240 km Special stage

Goncalves wins second stage of the OiLibya Morocco Rally on HRC Honda...

After the inaugural victory of Joan Barreda at the opening stage in Morocco on Monday, it was the turn of his teammate Paulo Goncalves today to show his ambitions. The Portuguese claimed the stage win and captured the overall lead. Both Speedbrain-managed riders are now heading the overall standings, in front of Marc Coma in third position.

Paulo Goncalves: "It was a rather difficult day today in the mountains of Zagora, and tricky navigation to overcome. I had a good start, found a good rhythm in the endless rocky sections, and my new Honda CRF450 Rally worked also in these conditions extremely well. I feel very confident now, and I am happy for my team to deliver my first stage victory."

Joan Barreda: Today was not easy to open the stage in first position, but it went all well, so I am happy I did not lose too much time, having secured a good starting position for tomorrow. My bike worked awesome, the settings we are able to improve every day. Congratulations to Paulo!"

Wolfgang Fischer, Team Manager: "The rally could not have started any better. Two stage victories and both of our riders lead the overall classification, that is a nice reward for the hard work and good preparation of Honda and Speedbrain."

Today was faster than yesterday. Todays average for the leader was 84.6 kmh.

Using 78 kmh avg, I got 3:04 last night. That puts my guess off my 14 min (actual time was 2:50.22).

If I had used the actual result shown from day 1 of 83.8, I would only have been off by 1.61 min. today

Its weird to quote myself, but what the heck...

Found this on FB. Coma doing 174Km.hr. Guess both bikes are on the same page this year...

Another update from Coma's FB

Marc Coma

I am satisfied after the second day. We have made some changes in the back of the bike that have allowed us to shoot more comfortable throughout the entire day. Gradually we will know the bike a little more. Everything has been developed as planned and after completing a stage that has been very technical we crossed the goal in the second position. Actually, hoped that a pilot is placed between Paulo [Gonçalves] and I but in the end has not been so. We must focus on every day to get to the end of the trial with guarantees. We are still many days ahead and most importantly resides in follow equally concentrated and with the same consistency carried out so far. Tomorrow we return to a stage of dunes in which navigation will be an important factor to take into account. (Translated by Bing)

Going to be a short day in the of5ice today.

About to board a flight Dubai-Singapore with no Internet access

But managed to get one with a 2 hour stopover in Sri Lanka that lands there about 45 mins after the start of the special

Go Sam, team HRC & Ben (for the Ozzies, but only before the Ashes - American f5ers, don't ask, its far more complcated than Rally )

Hi, Troy!
Won't be much of a job today. I lose my topo display whenever I zoom in to <10mi scale.

Edit: "They" do seem to have finally gotten Sam & Helder's tracker's straightened out.

Good morning all.

It seems Sunderland is not H. Rodrigez on the tracking anymore.

They are all pushing with high speeds from the start.

Hi, BB!

Based purely on nothing, I'm gonna call CP1 in that dry wash (?wadi?) about 2/3 of the way down the long SW-bearing leg, before the turn back NW.

Stage 3 : Under the sun of mahmid

Better late than never.

STAGE 3 : UNDER THE SUN OF MAHMID
LIAISON : 65 KMS – SELECTIVE SECTOR: 250 KMS – LIAISON : 98 KMS
Back in the sand! The Cheggaga erg will be the playground of this third stage where copilots will
have to keep
an eye on the caps. The start will be on a rolling and fast track.
Then, competitors will descend into the valley
by an easy track but with undulations
. On a sandy and undulated track, they will go along the Cheggaga Erg to
reach the lake Iriki
. Amators of speed will enjoy this fast portion on the lake, but copilot will keep an eye on
their notes to reach the most
West point of the rally. The return will be done at the cap in order to cross the
chott and access to dunes. Those who like the sand will be served! The most beautiful dunes of the rally are
crossing here ... Pilots will
have to follow the caps to escape the erg. Beautiful easy tracks with many parallel

will join the finish.
