For those that have ridden this route, whats the ratio of dirt to pavement?

Best guess = 70% dirt & gravel

Do you really mean download the attachment? If so, and you can't get the attachment from Advrider, PM me with email address and I will send you the file.

If you really mean you want to see the file on a map, you can use Google Earth.

I couldn't open the file with Internet Explorer 11. The file downloaded as attachment.php. I used Google Chrome to download.

Thanks

I got the file from you the other day, opened up and added it to the TETS and HOCAT files. Just wondering, where abouts are you in SC and have you ridden either of those two trails, or portions of them. My plan is to leave Charlotte early on a Friday, ride the HOCAT west from Columbia and hook into the TETS up into NC. Ultimately I would like to circle back up to the Boone area and down to Charlotte.

I am in Trenton, SC, near SC Exit 11, I-20. I don't know HOCAT. I have ridden some parts of TETS- I live on the edge of the Savannah River Valley.. Send me the SC psrts of your route.. I would like to see your plan.

So here is the link to the HOCAT. Happens to be the current thread below yours right now. It runs just north of you and pretty much southeast to northwest. Don't have much of a plan yet but it's either catch it at I-20 or I-85....looking like the latter and running up that portion of the TETS into some of the SM500 and then north some more.

A section of the TET-S, section SL02, passes within a few mile of my house. I have ridden most of the route shown from Augusta, GA to McCormick, SC. It is OK for Sunday afternoon riding near home, but it isn't like riding in the mountains.

I have ridden most of the HOCAT connector from Columbia to Orangeburg. I used to live in Columbia and was a member of the Columbia Enduro Riders. We covered much of the same ground in the late 70's through early 80's looking for places to race. The club still hosts and enduro in the area near Pelion, SC (Sandlapper national Enduro was last Sunday - March 2).

I wouldn't travel very far just to ride the roads in Central, SC. There would have to be another objective to make it worth the trip. Riding north of I-85 would be more like the things I like to do. Note that some of the roads in the mountains may be closed for the winter.

Yes sir thanks for the info. It seems the more people I talk with the more I should just head for the hills and skip the sandy portions. For me though, it takes 4 hours to get to that area for riding. And no matter which way I go, I'll be trailering at least to an unload point or maybe someone will drop a couple of us (one of the wives) and we can ride back home. So maybe heading out of SC from 85 and making big loop would be OK? I'd love to do the whole SM500 though and can't do everything. Also where are these trail 81 and 82 located on your map?
Thanks,
BOIKE

I haven't been on FS 81 or 82. They are south of Tellico Plains, TN.

We rode 81 and 82 at March Moto Madness this past weekend... really great trails. Single track for a lot of it and you don't want to fall on the low side of the trail, it'd be a ways down. Saw a few bigger bikes on them, but you gotta have skills for that. I was on a DR650, no issues.
