There is no official group ride planned for the SM500. You can make your own plans and go.

After reading your post, I did create a facebook page for the ride. Look for Smokey Mountains 500 and join.

Anyone know how far it is between gas stops on this route?

I have a supertanker that I ride, but we have a few of those that are fuel storage challenged coming along and they are wondering.

What time do you plan on leaving from Suches? I would like to join in on the Friday ride over to Tellico and peel off in the afternoon to head back to Young Harris.

Well technically we aren't going by TWoS. We are staying at a friend's house and starting there. He's in Dawsonville right off Mill Creek Rd & Hwy 9. He's actually right in that triangle that's formed by Mill Creek Rd, Mill Creek Spur, & Hwy 9. His driveway is off Mill Creek Rd. Here is a lat/long pin on his house - (34.492902, -84.103496) - http://goo.gl/maps/CpdC2

You can probably shoot by around 9am. We should hopefully be eating breakfast by then and getting things wrapped up to leave. You should see lots of bikes and trucks/trailers in the driveway or yard.

From there we are picking up the trail at Nimblewill Church Rd.

Any other point along the route that I could pick up the group? I really don't want to head down to Dahlonega if I can help it.

Well, you can certainly try to find us. But I really can't guarantee where you'll find us.

You could jump on FS-42 like the normal route does and look for us somewhere after Nimblewill Church Rd. Traveling by yourself, you certainly should be able to catch our group. However, but if you are ahead of us, you'll be looking all day.

Looks like you guys got a late start based on your spot transponder. I ended up heading over to TN via Davis creek and made my way over towards Reliance via the usual trails. I did hit fs 81 and 82-both looked like there hasn't been any travel on both for awhile. A little muddy and has some branches down but it was still passable.
It was a good day-did about 210 miles mostly on single and dual tracks. By the end of the afternoon it cleared up nicely and capped off a great day. Y'all have fun for the rest of your trip and stay safe. I'm going to switch over to asphalt for the next couple of days and see if I can cap off the weekend in grand style

Yep, we had a really late start on Friday. I don't think we left Dawsonville until 10:30. Between a large group and a couple new riders, it was a long day on Friday. Sat, we split up into 2 groups which worked much better and then Sunday we had lost a couple people, but still had a group of 8 that all worked very well together.

Two of us did 81 on Friday and 3 of us did 82 on Sat. It had been a while since I had done 81. That one still gives me a decent workout.

I'm sure Bryce will be in here, but there's one spot between TWoS & Tellico before you get to Ducktown that you can't travel on by MC. It's gated and I don't think its ever been allowed for a long time. I think it was West Cow Pen rd or something? There is an easier by pass before you get there, but didn't think we would need it. Instead of back tracking to the bypass, we ended up finding another way that took us into the south side of Ducktown.

The other group that was riding out there got on FS22 and took that in. They said it was closed at one point for bridge repairs, but they were able to get by.

I'll post up my revised tracks as I added some extra loops that include Trail 81 & Trail 82 for those that want to do it, plus the McFarland loop to see the Azteck ruins. I also added in a bit for FS434 which pops you out on the Cherohala skyway. Bryce added in a bit between Iron Horse & TWoS that includes FS711 since that road is such a blast.
