Senator Highway to Crown King

My son and I rode to Crown King and back from Prescott last week over Senator Highway. I'm on a 1989 yamy xt 600 he's on a 80's honda 500.
Wasn't aware that the road had washed out. I have been riding that road since 1974 and never seen it that bad. When did it wash out?
It was about 5 mi from Crown King near Tower Mtn.
We still made it through. And lots easier going back cause it was down hill

I love that ride.

I bought an old jeep so I could show my Wife some of the places I ride. We went out Walker Rd to Senator & east on Senator. Took the Mayer cut off back to 69. Pretty much beat the crap out of us & we never got to the really rough part west of CK. Pretty rough over all but should be a lot more fun on a bike

senator closure

I read a forest service alert that says they closed it down July 18. Must have been quite a gullywasher. It is doable. And alot easier when we did the return to Prescott.

Better late than never?

Delayed post...I don't check here often.

A mate and I went through Senator Highway on a couple of Triumph Tigers (800 and 900) on 9/07. This was the weekend before Phoenix got 3.5 inches of rain so I presume it could be worse now.

We were coming from Prescott finishing a big loop from Bagdad/Camp Woods. A few saw-horse style barricades were off to the side of the road but not blocking the road about 10 miles north of CK. No sign on the barricades. 5 miles later we came upon a high-centered rental FJ trying to claw out of about 300 yards where the road and the creek bed had become one. After helping the FJ get out, we both made it through with minimal drama except a little bit of sweat. The turn off at CK had another set of barricades with a clear sign that Senator Highway was closed.

Other than the washout near Hopper Saddle, the road was in good shape except a few washes that have become more challenging. However, the road washout was not possible in a stock 4x4. It's doable for someone experienced on a big bike with a half-dozen tough spots. No problem for a trail bike.
