I know there are some rocks at the bottom of the Grand Canyon that may have been pushed over the edge. I sure hope I, er, I mean the unknown perpetrator gets charged with a felony too for assisting Mother Nature!

But I can understand the difference from random fun with rocks from high places, to destroying a geologic formation that is the whole point of the park they were in..

My thoughts EXACTLY!

Just saw it on USA today website. Their 'excuse' for pushing it over is a big fat LIE! Was willful destruction.

I used to rock climb. A nonclimber/co-worker and I were at the top of a rock cliff and he was enjoying tossing rocks off. I was like....what if there is a climber down there?

I don't know exactly what you are talking about at Grand Canyon, but pushing/tossing rocks likely occurs from any high place....with ZERO thoughts of what might result (cuz of course the person doing the pushing/tossing is the only person/thing on the planet).

I agree with Mountainsandrivers tho that there is a difference. The behavior of these idiot's is a bit like Dean Potter's ascent of Delicate Arch. Just effin wrong! Hope they're charged with a felony.

A fitting sentence might be a hefty fine and about 2500 hours of community service in the park. That these douchenozzles are Scout leaders boggles the mind. One of the tenets of Scouting is a respect for others and the natural beauty of the outdoors...

No High School Diploma - Is this a pyramid scheme he does? Okay I listen to most of his speech in the background. He is a sales guy, the service sounds so Pyramid'ish to me, as he promises the world.

Reminds me of my backpacking days when you could spot a 'Boy Scouts' rustic campsite five years after they spent a single night there... "Hey, let's cut down a dozen trees, make a lean-to, and build a six foot wide fire pit!"

Observations:

1 Hopefully the Sierra Club and other environmentalists will get their lawyers working on their prosecution...real evidence of intentional environmental damage/destruction

2 These low lifes are actually acting as agents of the Boy Scouts and LDS church on their BS camping trip which makes for some deep pockets to sue...ought to be expelled from the Boy Scouts, banned from Utah state parks...hopefully the BS and LDS will not help in their defense

3 Nice of them to record and post on the internet for evidence their actions/bragging/rejoicing, never mentioning safety till later when trying to be unaccountable for their actions

4 No loss to humanity if the rock had landed on any or all of them

Okay. . . that was vandalism/destruction of nat resources, etc, and they should certainly be punished for their behavior.
They have no good excuse - destructive, thoughtless, foolish. . . infuriating for us reasonable folk.

Fines and community service, absolutely.
Relinquishing voting and gun rights, no way.

I think I've had my picture taken on that boulder before (I'll try to find it).

I disagree, I don't want these morons owning or trying to fire a gun, and I for sure don't want them voting.
