I am moving to Aviano Italy in May of 14- any off road action? I have a ktm 690 enduro and hoping not to have to change it up for street ridding...

Lucky!

I did two tours there from '69-'71 and '75-'77 (then on to Sardinia for 18 months).

SUPERB area. Not a whole lot of off-roading in Europe, unfortunately.

Contact GiorgioXT on this forum - he's "local" (Padova, Tai di Cadore) and will have a lot more info for you.

Enjoy the tour!

One of my all time favourites on this tour was the road (E74) between Limone Piemonte and Ventimiglia. At the Tunnel du Col de Tende, you start in the first row with the local bike heros and from there on it`s 55 km of pure bliss. :)

Wow.

Great photo!

What road? It's not the old Tende road, and I don't recognize it.

Made worse by the probability that I've ridden it.

April is risky, as stated there can be a LOT of snow and closed roads, dependent on the severity of the winter. Even getting S could be a problem. Also as stated, wetter that time of year, Fall is really the best time to ride.

If you are set on Spring you might want to look at flying into Milan, Florence or Rome, or taking the Train from Zurich and getting a bike at points south.

if it is twisty stuff you seek, I 3rd or 4th the Tuscany, Lazio, Abruzzo, and Unmbria region, there are enough corners to make your head spin, they just keep going and going and going. And the food and wine is superb! See my unfinished ride report from the link in my signature.

Look at the the website weather underground, If you go down to the history tab, and choose monthly view, you can see the averages and weather History from most European cities.
