Summary

I keep thinking of trying to label what you're trying to accomplish and I think I have it. Are you trying to build a reliable super enduro?

Now now... It is a lot easier and cheaper to sort out the SE's weak points then to try and bring a XC up to SE levels when off road.

However this bike project does look pretty cool. My one short ride on an XC showed me a killer motor but really a street bike around it so these mods will open up new resources for XC owners that want a little more.

Funny you should ask

We are actually looking into a few options
I have designed a Fuel tank that is at this time at the fabricators
I hope to be Able to test it within the next few weeks
I personally think the Safari tank is very nice but it keeps the gas writing way too high. But until I actually ride the bike with the Safari take on it I do not have an honest opinion I am still waiting for my Safari tank to arrive

From my 40 minute stint on an SE I have to agree. I would have purchased one too but I didn't have the patience to deal with all of the niggling drawbacks that would drive me nuts.

I'm with you every step of the way on this build. Fix the suspension, bulk up the wheels, drop 50 pounds and throw on some soft bags. That's what will turn this bike into a world beater for me.

Thanks for letting us all tag along

Shouldn't you be over trolling Orange Crush or are the pain killers making you forget which forum you are on? Get well soon!

Haha yeah I don't like those pills they give you and am living on over the counter stuff. I'll be back mid December!

As for reading thiis post - most of my friends with XC's (5 I can think of) know I'm a big fan. I'm not a brand rider - I buy bikes that suit me and my riding at that time.

Baja Dad - sorry you thought I was dumping on your project but quite the contrary. I have a lot of respect for you and your other bikes. Read my post again please.

You can't buy an SE anymore and KTM has gone the other way with the 1190 so we are left with the the current crop of multi cylinder mid size bikes and I much prefer the XC to the ummm other one.

Your project will inspire others and as I said will create resources for others to make improvements to their bikes based on your trials and tribulations.

I'll be following this with much interest!

Please forgive my ignorance, but I looked at the Mexican 1000/ NORRA website and as far as I can tell the event is open to "vintage and alternatively fueled vehicles and a limited number of modern pre-runners and bikes". How are the "limited number" of modern machines chosen?

Pretty much pay your entry fee and you're in.

Although most of the 4-wheelers tend to be vintage; in the bikes it's a mix of old and new. Very few alternatively fueled vehicles...

Cool. I don't think it would be this year but I'd love to give it a try sometime.
