Bike Passage to Panama

Hi,

It is my understanding that the STAHLRATTE is carrying both passenger and bike between Cart & Pan. Cost is 980 US for Bike and Rider.....4 day crossing stopping at the Kuna Isl....additional tax is 9 US.....this includes all paperwork to enter Panama.......contact Ludwig....he is the Captain of this 120 ft boat...

That's how it used to work, but regulations just changed a few weeks ago and now sailboats can't take bikes from Colombia to Panama. Panama to Colombia is still fine. I've been in touch with the Steel Rat and a few other captains and companies. What a shame! Hopefully it changes again soon!

Hola,

That really sucks.....I thought the Rat would be exempt as you end up being a member of the charter as opposed to a paying passenger....wishing all the best.
I bought a Euromot 200cc in Dec in Santiago and rode to Ushuaia and back....great trip only wish I had continued north.......

Good to see the pictures back, even if occasionally gruesome!

aka "Thai tattoo" around these parts.

Just about everyone gets one because just about everyone rides at some time in their lives, and bare legged is commonplace. Some cover them, but mostly a bit of cold water, then fresh air is the only treatment they get.

That nickname names sense. No one wears any gear around here, except for helmets in Colombia, and obligatory vests sometimes.

In daily news: I woke up at the god awful hour of 7am, to the sound of my old work alarm. Ugh. But, I was able to get my bike to the airport and have the narco police do their thing. I'll fly out Tuesday. Staying here a lot longer than expected, but it's been nice.

Sleeping on the job

Kicking the tires, over and over. There were at least 4 dudes just lounging around/on my bike. It's weird.

Really nice people, though. Went through Master Logistics, who then get the bike on a Girag flight.

At the Botero museum. My new helmet :)

My passenger Sara was forced to wear my gear. :)

Go Colombia!! Big day in the streets of Medellin as Colombia won 3-0 to Greece! Cheering, cursing, honking and screaming were heard for hours. Practically everyone, young and old, is in the yellow Colombia jerseys.

Pretty cool to be here in the midst of it all.

Laugh

I never could understand this sports stuff, but I'll gladly attend all the after parties they want to throw. Enjoy!

I don't get it either :) Not a sports fan, but can't help smiling at all the enthusiasm around here!

Any nurses or doctors seeing this? Sorry, gross picture, but does that oozing look infected?

This guy got not one, but two burns on his calves from my motorcycle. One burn is healing really well, the other... Not so much.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not a DR

Not a DR, just an EMT, but yes, I think the yellow discharge may indicate that it is infected. What are your options for treatment and medical care?

Same here, a wound shouldn't be oozing yellow discharge like that. My advice would be to head to a local pharmacy and see if you can get antibiotics. Better yet, go see a doctor.

Yeah, the more I look at it I'd say definitely go see a doctor. However, I am not an EMT or doc, so hopefully someone more knowledgable can give you more specific advice...

Silver sulfadiazine is great for burns. I would definitely get some of that. It helps with the topical side of bacteria and assuming it does not have systemic bacteria.

Keep an eye on the redness and mark the peripheral border. If it is increasing in size away from the wound, seek help ASAP.

Oral antibiotics are likely needed . I would personally.

These poor guys

Looks sweet as. Just throw a heap of salt on it and duct tape (the silver stuff is the most fashionable) over the top. Repeat as necessary
