Hi Yokesman,

Don't want to hijack Dwight's thread, but I will post pics, prices and name names when I get back to wifi later. Dwight and others might want to know about los baratos dentistas Mexicanos.

Kindest regards,
John Downs

Talking Subscribed

I'm in and subscribed. Of course, if you make it down my way I'll be happy to buy dinner again. There is a somewhat active group of ADVers in the southern part of the state (LA) so maybe we could have a little shindig! It is Louisiana after all. Any excuse for a party!

Went to the dentist down in Los Algodones Mexico yesterday. I like the fact that they post their prices on the wall. I wish American dentists did this:

Of course the posted rates are gringo prices, and as with anything in Latin America those prices are negotiable. A 55.00 filling was quickly lowered to 30.00 when I explained how cheap dentistry was further south where I am heading next week. Although this is cheap by American standards, in the end, I decided to wait until I get further south next week where prices are half these border town prices.

The dentist who examined me was certainly better looking than I was expecting:

There are scads of dentists in this little border town. It can be overwhelming since there are so many of them. My sister had done some internet research before choosing this place, and sure enough they were able to fabricate a partial for her to replace a missing lower front tooth in a few hours and we were off.

Now back to regularly scheduled ride report.

Kindest regards,
John Downs

Labrador

Key West to Shediac

Maritimes to Argentina

The Great Lakes

Now this ride to MX

I will have to try and post links to them all for those that are interested in reading about where this old guy has been, or where this old has been goes...as the case may be.

I can't help but agree with the above . A dear friend was living in Argentina that had dental work done prior to coming to the States, against the advise of family and friends.. Jim drowned in his own blood while in the dentist chair, another story has it that he died in the Lobby of the Hotel he was staying in waiting for the ambulance to take him to the hospital shortly after leaving the dentist office . True Story.
You guys are not making going to the dentist any easier!

Hi Bryce!

Thanks Bryce, L love my new KTM.

Great to hear from you, I haven't seen you since breakfast at the market in Lima! It would be very cool if we can get together again. I am in Cape May NJ this morning. I plan to take the ferry over to Delaware and ride on the Delaware Coast today, Rehoboth Beach then Virginia Beach etc. Where are you? I couldn't get your Spot Locator to work.

My plan is to head to Port Aransas TX. It is south of Houston, a wonderful little town. I have a friend, Jody who lives there that I want to go see, and I want to visit the Salty Dog, the best little Honky Tonk in TX Then my plan is to ride up to AZ...hopefully we can get together.

Of course statistically the chances of this happening are low and I suspect the same is true for Mexico.
Sadly there are risks to everything that is fun. Riding you bike, going to the dentist.....wait I lost my train of thought.

It's Kedgiman heading my way. I'm crossing over to Los Algodones with my sister this morning to go to the dentist when the border opens in an hour. I'll let you know how it goes.

To me dentistry is like auto body repair. Grind out the rot and fill it with bondo. Third world dentists rule. Don't listen to the naysayers.

I'm flying down to South America in 5 days to continue my ride report, but if you're heading to Arizona before then you have a free place to stay.

Saludos,
Juan de los malos Dientes
Hola Juan!

Amazing how we both seem to know THE places to go but never get there at the same time. I am in Cape May NJ this morning working my way toward TX and AZ. Algodones is definitely on my list of places to go.

I remembered you saying you had work done down in MX last year, and that is what got me thinking when I heard my dentist throw around crazy figures like $20G. If I'm going to MX anyway.........I may as well see what I can get done.

I'll be following your continued RR, Suerte!

Your Amigo Dwight (Or since I have found out the Spanish can't say Dwight, I am Dui, pronounced like Duey, to them)

Hey Hevy!

Glad you're along for the ride! Sorry I missed you up in Northern Ontario, I was in a home seeking mode of epic proportions, Thunder Bay to Shediac in three days. I had jet lag when i got home. It was worth it though, I caught up with Bob from Vancouver and we had a great time.
