EDIT: whoops, Nov.

I work during the week and wouldn't be able to attend. Any way I can still get involved?

I represented the AMA working on an OHV park for LA county for about 5 years just after Indian Dunes closed.

Bottom line, the spineless county supervisor for this district said no to every proposal as soon as two non OHV constituants complained. It is his fifdom and no amount of meetings will get a park until he wants one.

Who is the county supervisor for that area?

Did anybody go? I work in Santa Monica and couldn't get out in time to head over to Littlerock, unfortunately.

I heard through the grapevine that there is considerable movement in getting this off the ground, especially with the big turnout at the public meeting.

OHV Supporters Out in Force at Little Rock Public Meeting
Some 300 members of the public, mostly residents of the Antelope Valley, attended a public meeting on November 20, 2013, to show their support for a proposed Los Angeles County OHV park near Littlerock. The California Offroad Vehicle Association (CORVA), California Trail Users Coalition (CTUC), Azusa Canyon Off Road Association (ACORA), California Association of Four Wheel Drive Clubs (CA4WDC), and many other off-road vehicle groups and clubs rallied their members to show support for the OHV park that would, for many of them, provide much needed legal OHV riding opportunities close to home.

Some local residents expressed concerns that an OHV park in the area would lead to greater illegal activity, more trespassing, and more illegal dumping. County representatives emphasized that illegal riding in the area would continue to be a persistent problem without an OHV Park, and that the proposed OHV Park will lead to greater law enforcement presence which could dramatically reduce illegal riding and dumping in the area.

Linda Wucherpfennig, a member of CORVA and a resident of Juniper Hills, said of the supportive crowd, “This outpouring of participation from our community was a great step towards making the 5th District Supervisors office aware of the monumental support for this project. The meeting presentation of the project proposal was clear, presented the facts, and dispelled the myths that are currently being presented against the project. This forum also provided our community with the opportunity to provide comments that reflect factual information and in support of OHV family recreation that is greatly needed in the Antelope Valley. “

Mike Bishop, President of ACORA and Secretary/Treasurer of CTUC said there were so many cars parked along the road that they were stacked two-deep in the dirt and he thought, “Hey, there must be a ball game here tonight because there is no way this many people are here for the meeting.” He was thrilled when he realized that all those people were, in fact, there for the meeting. Concerned that an evening meeting smack in the middle of the work week would have a poor turn-out, Mike had promised to fund a $100 raffle if more than 50 OHVers showed up to show their support. The raffle was won by a young girl who is saving up for her first quad. A link posted to Peterson’s 4Wheel and Off Road Facebook page gained 1,762 likes and 62 shares, which is an astonishing number and goes to show how welcome the Proposed park would be.

Los Angeles County's Department of Parks and Recreation is still seeking comments on the proposed action and CTUC encourages their members to show their support through letter writing.

They should put it in Playa del Rey out on the sand dunes so that folks do not have to drive so far.
