The first 1/2 dozen bikes I rode weren't mine. My dad was not supportive of my desire to ride, so I borowed a friends spare bike whenever I could. Then getting married and having a house pretty much eliminated having any money for a bike.

My grandmother passed away when I was 25, and left me a bit of money. After paying off some debt I had just enough to buy this:

I made a 100MI round trip commute on that EX for a few years before selling it. My only gripe was not having the cash for bar risers and a taller windscreen to make the trip more comfortable in the winter. My son chose (without undue influence from me) a Ninja 500 as his first street bike.

Gran was a motorcyclist herself (this is a posed shot with a friend, but she really did ride the HD):

Unfortunately she had to sell it when grampa passed on (being a young mother with two kids). It'd be cool to find out where it is now.

I've put about 2500 miles on it so far....

Access to public lands is a right, not a privilege.

I don't have any pics of mine that I'm aware of, but mine was a 1983 CX650 Custom. A friend bought it for 800 bucks and I later traded it for a honda recon ATV; came with a bad stator and a DOT half helmet. Instead of splitting the cases to replace the stator I just carried a battery charger with me. I figured out that with a hot battery I could ride about 100 miles before I had to stop and hook up to the charger for a few minutes. Several people learned to ride on that bike and it went down in the hay field more times than I care to count. Sold it to buy an engagement ring....
