Very urgent message from the 2014 indy motogp staff!!!!

Uncle Duke again and this is an urgent message from Sandy Byrnes and crew for this year's Indianapolis MotoGP, scheduled from Thursday August 7 to Sunday August 10.

WE NEED 40 MORE WORKERS TO SIGN UP OR WE'RE IN THE PROBLEM MODE! Now, as I have mentioned in past years, prior flagging experience is always welcome BUT we always welcome rookies and first-timers warmly. And remember, if you have seen the other end of a flag either as a racer or as a track-day junkie, well, that counts as well.

Easest way to get on board is to contact Ms. Sandy Byrnes at any of the following: sbyrnes@hrmentor.com, or her main phone of 847.475.0500 or her cell 847.494 4312. Be sure to mention that Ken Browde at AdventureRider.com invited you: let me explain why. Sandy knows I am in this group but if you tell her "Uncle Duke" sent ya, she will think you are reading too many old Doonesbury cartoons. Better reason: each and every person we have recruited from ADV has been terrific! When Sandy hears that a volunteer is from ADV, she knows she can count on us fully to help officiate a great race!! By the way, if anyone wants to pick what's left of my brain for information, feel free to call me at home 517.626.7454 (and if you get the answering machine PLEASE leave a messsage and I will call you back) or my cell phone of 517.927.8023.

Now, for those of you sitting on the fence, a few words of comfort. First of all, flagging is NOT rocket science but requires a cool head and rapid decision-making. If you ride a bike like the rest of here at ADV, you already qualify. Second, you will receive full training and if you are a newbie, you will be assigned to an experienced worker who will gladly show you the ropes and tell you salacious stories of past race events (LOL!). You will be fed like an honored guest (no, really!), get lots of free bling including a very nice golf shirt, a lovely hat you cannot buy in any store and best of all, ya just can't buy a viewing station as good as hanging out on a corner.

This is really about as good as it gets. We'll have special motel rates for workers as well.

So please, get on the bandwagon and remember, we really can't run the race without you!

Respectfully,

UD (aka Ken Browde)

Where was this post the last couple years I live in Indy but this year have a big training thing for work that week.

Good Luck, it's a great event and he is right, I've often wished I could get those great seats those guys have.

I can probably help out. I'll double check what my schedules look like at this point. And get back to you later today.

I got a reply almost immediately from Sandy on the 21st. Filled out the "form" from the link she sent me and haven't heard anything back in three days. I guess they've found their 40 and then some already. Sadly without me.

I would not assume that you are out; they need to compile the list of those who have submitted applications, which takes a little time. Be patient - you'll hear something soon, and I would bet we will see you there in August.

If you have questions, do not be afraid to ping Sandy (but give her a week or two). She is very friendly and great to work with.

So you're saying there's a chance....

Sorry, it was the first thought I had, so I had to quote the movie.
