Deciphering 9X0 engine #'s???

Ok. I'm looking at a spare engine for my Adv and can't find a cypher for the eng number anywhere. KTM Aust can't help..
Is there any way to tell if its a 950, 990, ADV,SM or SD from the eng #?? Year would be good as well. It would be a valuable resource for those looking to purchase online as well to weed out rotten bastages!!

Ask your dealer.

If they put the engine number into KTMDealernet it will give them the original delivery details of year, model, VIN, supplying dealer, first customer, service & warranty details etc
