I recall some bright flashes in a big fluffy corner on SS7. didn't bother me though. I was more concerned about my LED accessory light looking skyward everytime I hit a bump (which was every other 1/2 second) and stalling the bike in that turn because of it. the camera flash actually lit up the surroundings enough to help me rocket out of the sand canyon I was in without too much trepidation.

too bad you weren't in the 90 degree lefty a little further up. I completely missed the sign ... if it was even there to begin with ... and blew the turn.
ended up going straight, up and over the berm and headed for trees.

did a quick stuntman tumble off the bike before re-mounting and scooting off in the right direction. could've used some pre-turn flash lighting there.

There was no sign. I took the opposite approach. I came to a complete stop. I damn near got off the bike and asked for directions. I wasn't about to get within yards of the finish and toss it into the woods.

ok, good to know. I bet whomever was sitting in the white beemer behind the tape opposite the direction of the course was laughing his ass off.

His sorry ass actually blinked his lights at me. He didn't get out and offer to point in the right direction.

This was the point where I was thinking..."you know, if this doesn't end well, this bike will be for sale at a very low price....."

By the time I got to the big fluffy corner on SS7, I was seriously contemplating just running my front fender clean up one of those bright white asses I saw behind the tape. Everyone had pretty much taken off, and I was up on the highway getting push started by the car guys, who erupted into an inspiring cheer when the bike started and I took off down the road. I was trying to hand my timecard to the starter, while not releasing the throttle, so he probably thought I was on drugs. Well, more drugs anyway. I honestly could not see a damn thing.

LMAO... that is frick'n hilarious... If it hadn't end well I probably would have flipped out for a while, Robby Gordon style... but eventually i just would have went back to work on it until i either fixed it or ran out of time. i think that is part of the reason i like rally - it taps into my don't give up gene.

Doc - great recap!

What a fun weekend

CD - I agree with you, somewhat to my surprise. I actually think SS7 was my best run of the day - it wasn't the fastest, but i think it was the most fun and just felt "right". I just need a little fiddling with my light setup and it would have been perfect.

I kind of suspect that the night run narrows your focus and also forces you to come off your pace a bit (for me, at least). I think the combination of the two ends up making for a better overall run... assuming of course you have minimally adequate lighting.

Cheers!

Hanging around after the evo roast waiting to start SS5 (i think):

The pack waiting on the start of SS7 before it got dark:

The front, middle, and back of the pack:

Jason and JJ talking the finer points of running in the dark:

Devon, Jeff, and Brian joking about how fun it will be to run in the dark:

What it looks like to start a stage well after sundown!
