OK Gold Rush 2013

Friday-Sunday Nov. 1-3, 2013. Hallett Raceway.

Who is going? Anyone racing?

OKgoldrush.net

I may have a few extra seats to transport some carpoolers to the event. I'm going Saturday morning and will return to Tulsa Saturday afternoon.

It's a $20 per vehicle gate fee, so riding there on bikes probably isn't advised...

I raced 3 of those races back in the late 90's and 2000. they were a lot of fun. Just be careful coming onto the asphault with muddy tires. Makes for a slippery situation. Wish I had the time and energy, I would do it this year.

I was planning on racing all 3 days, work has interfered though and I had to cancel.

I was planning on it then tossed 300 bucks at my truck 2 days before it. Also heard that the 20 dollar fee was per person, guy I know got nailed and had to pay for his passenger who was just coming to spectate as well instead of per vehicle.

Was planning on team race possibly with a buddy but we both decided against it on Friday. Me with just bad mood/dumping money on truck and him with a bummed out shoulder so just said eff it. Also the super early start times for beginners and open races kinda sucked.

Maybe next year.

So you Silvered?

Try driving a van up to the gate expecting to pay $20 for the vehicle and getting smacked for $80.

Oh well. It was fun. I heard you were riding, never saw you, and wondered what was up...

OUCH! Yeah, that per head thing, eee gads.

Yeah, fickle is as fickle does. Original plan was get up butt crack of dawn and do beginners race. Then Noel said he wanted to race. So then we talked camping. Then Noel found out beginners race was only an hour and (I think) they run a shorter course so said eff that and ok well lets look at doing team race. My truck went wonked and spent Bux on that, Noel went to some ninja kung fu class or some crap and tweaked his shoulder so we both stayed home and drank instead.

Looking like Scipio on Sunday hopefully.

Have room for one more?

Looks like results were posted.

My plan was to ride as an Ironman (3 hr solo race), but as I waited in the long registration line, I struck up conversations with Tom who needed a teammate. So we paired. He was on a KTM, so the colors below represent my laps (green) and his (orange).

Didn't place as well as I'd hoped- 35/48. Should have signed up as an expert team. We could have gotten 9th place.

PLACETEAM#LAPSTOTAL TIMELAP1LAP2LAP3LAP4LAP5LAP6LAP7LAP8
3522783:05:30.05524:37 (38)24:03 (35)23:00 (36)22:28 (39)22:35 (39)23:37 (39)23:11 (38)21:59 (35)

I drew the short straw and got to do the start. Lap 1 was a miserable traffic jam. I didn't take an aggressive start and narrowly avoided being collateral damage in a turn 1 collision. We were wheel-to-wheel in the woods and passing wasn't much of an option except for the highly aggressive riders. Every obstacle had riders backed up to it. Knowing this, it really would have paid to get a better start. The crowds dispersed a bit more with each lap.

I crashed pretty nicely in Lap 7 on an easy log crossing. My posture was bad and I got seat-bumped off the pegs and whiskey throttled into a superman pose. I pitched the bike into the woods. There were two riders behind me that got a nice show.

I clocked over 40 miles, as the lap was approximately 8 miles. It was quite a different race than last year, when I rode the short loop race on my KLR.

I completely understand the first lap woes. I started last year's team race. My first lap sounds a lot like yours. Massive traffic.

The only difference was when I'd come up to a jammed up trail at an obstacle, I made my own way around 'em and over whatever it was that had them all stuck

The rest of the race was pretty open. It's just that first lap that is so busy.

From looking at times it looks like it was a fast fast track. Would have been fun but one of those weekends.

We can probably get ya to scipio, dunno if we can fit both bikes in my small truck but if not others are going. That's if someone will commit to riding somewhere lol. It was scipio but now no one is saying yes or no on it. Might do Stillwater 500 or super secret riding area. I will keep ya posted though if you're in to ride on Sun. Just waiting to find out where people are heading too.

You need more decisive riding partners.

Another option (that I've been wanting to do) is the MX track on Hwy 75 near the Duck Creek Casino. Newner might be in... we've talked about riding there soon.

I think that's sweet 16. Big ol track if it's the one I'm thinking of. I've never been, but mostly I just get passed a bunch on an MX track and roughly a half a foot of air on the biggest jumps. Still fun though.

edit: Correction, that's south 75.
