Just another twisty road with way too many people on it.

All along the eastern mountains are bits of asphalt that have drawn too much attention and fallen victim due to their appeal, none more so than the Gap perhaps. A victim of it's own notoriety and the successful marketing by locals who have made it a business to support those that come to ride it. Heck, even talking about it on a public forum is advertising it.

Good luck with the whole turning back the hands of time thing. Once a genie is out off the bottle it rarely goes back in. ;)

Let's call it what it is....

A letdown after hauling nuts across the Skyway.

Its not bad at all off season, not crowded, hardly any patrol, and usually a few good weeks to start and finish off the season. Its actually getting just about ripe for me. But I doubt I will be making the 3 hour one way trip this year.

You forgot "the Snake", "the Rattler", "the Devil's Triangle" and most of all, the feared and maligned "Hellbender".

I've been riding "the Gap" since the mid 80's...I REFUSE to call it the D****n...

Deals Gap.....that's what it is...and that's what I call it.

Don't forget the "witches knuckle". I live about 15 minutes from Deals Gap and ride it often, heck if I want to head over to NC it's the quickest route for me. It's great at certain times of the day and very annoying at the weekend rush but it's a fun place to hang out and watch Harley's tip over as they exit the "Dragon store" parking lot. Good for the local economy as well and helps keep my taxes low!

It's always been Deals Gap to me. Goofy names for the different roads were started by the T-shirt vendors and perpetuated by tourists who don't know any better or want to impress there friends back home with a "badass" sounding name. It's so bad that some roads have more than one "tourist" name. Examples: Hellbender 28 and Moonshiner 28. Then there's "the Rattler" / "shiner's run" (209)

There have been times when I mentioned Deals Gap to some one and they had no idea what I was talking about so I had to say the D word to them

Lets call it what it is

Over rated & basically poserville!

But it is one hell of a rider training graduation test!

You should have seen & rode it when it was still dirt & gravel.
