At the southern most end of the Rainbow you enter a Sand Dunes Park fee area. I believe its open OHV's; I did see a few 4x4's wheeling about.

I only had a few more miles to go before reaching my fuel required turn around and head home milage when I could see some horseback riders headed my
way. At that point I decided to make a U turn and head back. This was an out and back ride not a loop so this was as good a time as any to start heading back. I don't need any horse drama. And they don't appreciate motorcycle drama.

So I never quite made it to the dunes or the fee area, just the northern area of the park. It was very pretty with Aspens and wild flowers still in bloom

Heading back north was equally pleasant. It seemed totally different moving in the opposite direction. Instead of camp though; I decided to stay in town and get something to eat; clean up a bit and attend church. I'm very happy with deciding to continue riding the Rainbow but it's not over. The first days ride didn't take me to the end of the trail and I was determined to ride the whole thing. Since I didn't need to be in Colorado for a couple of more days I figure I've come this far and I don't have far to go so lets finish this thing off.
The next morning I discover a flat front tire that needs repair before any new rock bashing so once I stage at a place near where I left off the first day I proceed on up the trail.

This was the best section of the Rainbow. Not so many rocks but still too many!
Some tight technical sections; Aspen groves; vistas. An earlier forest fire damaged area. The northern most section of the Rainbow where you cross a highway the trail becomes a shared mountain bike single track. I was riding against traffic as the bikers took advantage of as much downhill as they could. Luckily for all of us bike traffic was light for a Sunday.
