This section was the best however it was really long. I thought I was done at the highway crossing but spotted the mountain bike trail on the other side. I had at least another 10 miles to go. I was still determined to "ride the whole thing".So off I went again; up a series of sharp switchback into on coming bike traffic. The Rainbow gets pretty sketchy in places. At times I would think to myself;" I really shouldn't be out here by myself". Something stupid could happen at any moment. Notice I don't have any pictures of the rough stuff? That's because I'm too busy trying to hold on to my handle bars. And I don't dare stop in the middle of a bolder field heading up hill. I couldn't jeopardize momentum for the sake a photo.
See you in Colorado at the RMAR 1000..... I still have a day or two before I need to be in Colorado Springs for the kick off.

After some road time I arrive in Colorado Springs just in time for the pre-ride dinner/prep talk.
The next morning we all meet up at the local motor sports superstore. From there we play follow the leader out of town.

The pace is kinda slow but I have 6 days to enjoy this ride so I settle in and enjoy the scenery. Soon we're off the pavement and into the nearby hills. Just as the trail starts to get interesting we come upon a downed rider. He's someone from our main group but outside our micro group. He was riding ahead of my group with a couple of his buddies from Northern California. This poor guy; ended up breaking his leg. The three friends he had with him accompanied him to the local hospital; that was the end of their tour; four hours into day one.
The rider who hurt himself was a little balance challenged. He was moving along at a low rate of speed when he became high centered on a large rock. When we put his foot down to catch himself from falling; the ground was too far away and his bike came tumbling down upon him... That's the way I heard it anyway.
