last time I checked my X Challenge was making 40 mpg. With stock 2.5 gallon tank I will need another 4 gallons. That's 2 Rotopaxs... I can just take the wee strom but I would be happier on BMW

For us in the states,,, that equates to 23.5 miles per gallon... even on a worst day I have never averaged that bad on either the Adventure or SE.

I don't think Ted is putting us through 300 miles of swampy single track where the average consumption will be that low. I've estimated 33 mpg (7L/100KM) average for this ride taking into consideration terrain and speed.

I'd feel safier with a 28mpg estimation, what I did in Moab White rim (lot of sand, no luggage).

But you are right... 33mpg on Quebec gravel roads is correct

So realistically based on these mileage estimates where my Standard GS has a road range of 220 miles or so I should figure this to be maybe 160 miles! Damm I guess I'll be shopping fuel storage as well.

Any thoughts from those who know regarding taking a F800 vs the 12 with regard to fun factor? Fuel range will be about the same.

I did the Trans Taiga this year and were knocking down a bit better mileage than I do on the road due to the lower speeds. One of the guys was riding a standard GS and was getting greater than 220 miles on a tank, granted he didn't have much left but he didn't run out either. Also we were very smooth on the gas as we knew we had a lot of miles to cover between fuel stops.

The F700 on our trip ran out of fuel several times just prior to our fuel stops, but he has fixed that now with a new aux fuel tank. And here is how he solved it.

Well, I'm not a reference in fuel consumption.
I'm not very fast, but I try to keep the engine in the "quick response" range and have the front wheel as light as possible.
Once I tried to be economic (Route du Nord, going to TransTaiga), I felt and broke my neck!
Never again, I prefer to be out of gas than out of head

Try to keep up with Team LC8 and you will be out of gas in the first 50km!

Blaster ...assuming you may be attending...will you ride up from Southern Maryland or truck to a take off a bit further north?
I am on the lower eastern shore and undecided til probably a week away from start.

Since my K60 scouts aren't going to cut it, what do you guys recommend as a knobbie? I was looking at the TKCs.
