Perth Snail Trail Ride 2 - 1st December 2013

Its on again. We have a date!!

As a relative beginner, I know the feeling of wanting to go out for a ride but having no idea where to go and no one to go with. The thought of joining a group was not appealing as I felt I would be slowing them down too much.

This is a ride geared towards beginners. We will be tackling some common obstacles that will be encountered riding the dirt around Perth. The plan is to practice some sand riding, hill climbs and descents etc

I would very much like you to look at this web page:

http://snail-trails.sportsontheweb.n...ails-works.htm

to see how a Snail Trails ride works and also:

http://snail-trails.sportsontheweb.net/disclaimer.htm

as this is information that you will need to read and agree to.

The ride will be operated on a cornerman system -

The Cornerman System - How it works.

This ride will have a ride LEADER , A SWEEP RIDERS and EVERYONE WILL GET TO BE A CORNER MARKER AT SOME STAGE.

We will also have some regulars along to provide help throughout the group.
All of us will wear Fluoro vests, so you will know who we are.
When we come to a corner, intersection or obstacle, The leader slow down and point to a spot on the road/track. You should nod your head to let them know you are ok to stop, at which point they will continue on down the track.

You should position your bike:
  • Facing in the direction the leader have just gone
  • So that it won't obstruct anyone as they pass
  • So that oncoming riders can see you as they approach (or you might get rammed)
Once you are on the corner, YOU MUST STAY THERE until the SWEEP rider comes along and indicates that you should rejoin the ride in front of him. If you leave your corner before the Sweep arrives, following riders WILL get lost, causing the group to be split, and the ride to be spoiled.
It's a good idea to point out the direction to following riders, just in-case there is any confusion. DO NOT LEAVE THE POSITION UNTIL THE SWEEP COMES THROUGH. HE MAY BE HELPING SOMEONE AND YOU MUST STAY ON THE CORNER UNTIL HE WAVES YOU ON.

Because we will (hopefully) have quite a large group, we may get you to stop in pairs. This will give you someone to chat with while you wait, and will also keep the group together a little better.

REMEMBER:
1. Ride as slow as you like, this is a Snail Trails ride.
2. If you are feeling unsure about a section of road or track, just stop and put up your hand, one of the helpers will come along and either advise you, assist you through, or even ride your bike through for you.
3. It's your responsibility to keep yourself safe. Never do anything that you are not comfortable doing.
4. Bring your camera, a snack LOTS OF WATER and a hat!

IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO WRITE A CONTACT PERSONS DETAILS (NAME NUMBER AND RELATIONSHIP) ON A PIECE OF MASKING TAPE/PAPER AND STICK IT ON YOUR TANK IN CASE WE NEED TO CALL THEM

MEETING PLACE: Peak Servo, Sawyers Valley
TIME: 8am for 8:30am start
DATE: Sunday 1 December
