Who is traveling NZ in december/january

December i will be traveling the north island and january i will do the south.

I was wondering if there are any other riders on the road at that time.

I'm a 29 year old Belgian (still on the lookout for a bike once i'm there).

Best regards,

Jelmen

There will be hundreds if not thousands. You will rock up at any cafe in random spots will get to chat to someone. With NZ being so small with many different ways to travel there is no 'usual route' like you'd find in bigger places. You tend to travel where the weather is good- usually on one side of the country before swapping over & seeing the other side.

If you keep an eye out on here & kiwibiker there are spontaneous adv rides that you'd be more than welcome to join up with.

Good luck finding a bike & have fun! As Padmei says, check in here & on Kiwibiker - lots of stuff there in the meetings/events section & several local rideout threads in the Adv/dual purpose forum if you get a 'proper' bike . Looking at the diary for December the weekend of 14/15th might need a ride planned around here.

Get in touch if you want to stay when you hit Rotorua, we always enjoy hosting motorcycle travellers.

Cheers
Clint

G/day all

I'm flying down to Tauranga this coming Sunday, to pick up my R80GSPD in Katikati.
As usual I'll look closely at the weather map and decide, hopefully up to the Coromandel, one of my favourite places in the North, then onto the Bay of Islands, then swing south to be at Wanagui from Christmas Eve to the 28th for the Cemetery Races on Boxing Day, and the Jet Boat races the day after

Wellington on the 2nd of Jan,cross over Jan 3rd (on the red eye 2.30am ferry, only spots available for the entire DEC/Jan period), thanks to the grounding of the Interislander.

Attending the BMW rally at Nelson 18/20th Jan. Home in time for the Classic's at Phillip Island.

Hope to meet some fellow travellers some where.

I'll post in this thread where I'm heading to/overnighting.

Cheers

Chris

Update

I will be watching the demise of 2013 and seeing in the New Year, at one of NZ great pubs, on a site, that real estate agents would kill for,(location, location)

Not far from Wellington, in a straight line, but some what convoluted to get there.

Have stayed here many a time.

To watch the sun go down on a clear evening is simply magic.

Cheers

Chris

PS I'm getting excited!

Finally on the road again, left my friends house in KatiKati today, after waiting for the repaired speedo, and a potential, very serious curtailing touring problem, aka no charging with the new 450W alternator, but thanks to the lads at an Auto Electric shop in KatiKati, a probe and push and we were on the way (cheapest slab of beer I have bought, enjoy lads)

Then realised that a new rear tyre would not be such a bad idea, still had maybe 1/2000kms left on it, but given Christmas/New Year shutdown, last thing I wanted was a PTG, so after ringing around, the only place that had a suitable tyre,(400/18), remember this is a 30+year old bike, was Custom Treads, now, Central Motorcycles in Auckland. So a very quick dash from KatiKati, including splitting lanes for the last 40k's of the so called Southern Motorway, saw me in Auckland for a tyre replacement, and now, finally I feel like I'm on holidays as I enjoy the Coromandel

TBC

Cheers

Chris
