This may not be the best forum for the post, but most ADVrider's who have ridden south and posted Ride Reports here, stopped in the Plaza to visit Norton Rat's. Jeff was killed in a motorcycle accident a few days back and I just wanted to spread the word. Truly nice guy that had helped MANY of us travellers. I wrote my recollections of him here.
I rode a solo lap around South America on a tiny Honda. I've also ridden through Northern India, Nepal, and Bhutan on a Royal Enfield, and through Rajasthan on a Triumph Bonneville. You can read and hear more about that on my podcast @

Very sad news. I regret not meeting him and hanging out down there.

That was a very nice piece you wrote. I never had the chance to meet the man but wish I had known him. He sounds a great fella. I'm sure the world is a little emptier and colder without him.

Sad News

I was shocked today to learn of the passing of Jeff Powers. I met Jeff last year at his business, Norton Rat's Pub, in Cusco, Peru.

When Jeff heard I had ridden my KLR 650 from Canada to Cusco, he immediately got a beer and sat with me and we talked like we were old friends for hours! What a nice guy! Jeff had ridden from Arizona to Peru many years ago on a Norton.

The next day we watched the Superbowl together, what a great day. I have lost a friend, as I am sure have many, with Jeff's passing.

My sympathies to his friends and family. I am sorry for your loss.

I stopped by Norton rats when in Cusco on the way to Machu Picchu a couple of years ago. RIP Jeff.
