Aleix & Iannone both set their fastest laps on the open softest tyre.
What makes you think all of the Open Category riders wouldn't have used the soft tire? I have no data, though.

Here's what Aleix Espargaro had to say...

"We know that we'll be fast in qualifying but it's not important, we need to work on the race distance with the hard tyre in the rear. With the hard tyre we did a great pace even though the track wasn't perfect so I feel good but we need to wait and see."

Looks like the soft is a qualifier at this track.

A quick guide to tires. Bridgestone bring three tires to the track. A soft, a medium and a hard.

The soft and the medium are given to the Open teams, and they refer to the soft as soft and the medium as hard.

The medium and hard are given to the Factory Option teams, and they refer to the medium as soft and the hard as hard.

Just to confuse things further, the soft medium and hard tires are selected from four possible compound / construction families: extra soft, soft, medium, and hard. The three tires are always from three adjacent steps.

Yipes! J.Lo voiced some very bitter sounding comments about Yamaha in a GP1 interview. He doesn't sound like a happy camper at all. OTOH I'm using Google translate and often it obfuscates subtlety and shades of meaning.

Wow.

Mike54, I take back my criticism of your early 2015 speculation.

HRC must be loving this. Dissention over at Yamaha from their #1 rider.

This could really make for a wild silly season....and this year's races haven't even begun.

Nakagami

I sure hope Taka Nakagami wins a Moto2 race this year. FOUR consecutive second places last year...poor guy. Lookin' good so far.

I wonder how hard Marc was riding today? I'm guessing not that hard?

I'm guessing the Yamaha team won't be buying the Bridgestone guys any drinks at the hotel bar tonight.

You mean the Factory Yamaha guys? I still don't understand how the Tech 3 bikes are doing so well with younger riders and the factory, experienced guys are struggling so much?

And can someone please tell the guys at Dorna to please stop sending emails with the results in the title heading before I can watch the recorded coverage! At least make it where they only show up in the email body. Tired of opening my email account up and seeing the spoiler in the email heading without even opening it. I know I can go to the no spoiler video page but can't avoid my emails until I can watch the coverage.

The lower fuel limit has obviously placed a much greater emphasis on fuel consumption, resulting in a change in the engine braking for the Yamaha as well as far less punch during acceleration.

"On this track I have a bad feeling from the bike. The bike is very slow and very difficult to ride with the engine braking and acceleration. But especially with the longer gear the bike doesn't push. It is a long, long time since I tried a bike that is so slow in MotoGP. Now with 20 litres the engine goes like it is running on air."

What a joke MotoGP has become, just as the 2014 season starts. No one is racing now, it's just a game of rules and regulations.
