R1200GS Rough Idle when started cold

Hello All,

2012 R1200GS - lately when I start her up (when the engine is cold only), she fires up no problem, and almost immediately shuts down. So I have to give her another crank and at that time throttle up a bit to increase the RPMs for a few seconds and after 5-10 sec I let go of the throttle, she seems to be idling ok.
I do have GS911 - is there anything I can check with it that will point me in the right direction?

I thought maybe it's a bad gas, so filled up another tank, used a can of MOTUL injector cleaner - still the same...no help at all...

Any advice is much appreciated.

Have you checked;

1- Air cleaner.
2- Airbox and intake runners for debris, nests.
3- Dirty throttle bodies, idle air ports.
4- Fouled injector(s) poor spray pattern.
5- Fouled spark plugs.

What is you current fuel consumption? Has it recently improved? Gotten worse?

What oil do you use?

I use Amsoil 20W50 Fully Synthetic.

Current fuel consumption is about the same as always, no change.

Good idea to check air intake, I'll start with that - thanks

Can you borrow a GS-911? If so set it up to log realtime values to a CSV file on your PC then start the bike and record 5 minutes of data. If it stalls don't shut it off just press start again. That will tell us what's happening.

Look and see what the stepper motors and lambda control factors are doing. Also check that all the temperature sensors look right.

If you'd like to send me the log file, PM me.

Will do...Thanks again...

Now that I think of it it will probably need to be done tomorrow morning, when the engine is cold....I am sure it would fire up just fine later today, after I get her home...I can play and see I guess :)
