Roll charts.....about that. We haven't even thought about doing that. Current plan is Garmin GPS directions on our smartphones mounted to our handlebars or saved text directions on the phone in case of no signal areas. I'll be installing a USB outlet on my bike for on-the-go charging. Bad idea?

When we started there were only roll charts and no real GPS files other than some guys made along the way. No being a tech kind of guy I simply used Sam's roll charts and actually did fine. I kind of think the GPS might take some of the adventure out of it for me personally, wrong turns are sometimes great experiences. I will look forward to your thoughts about the GPS after this weekend.

I assume you are starting at the new start point in Tellico? If you have not been in Tellico much you will the area. Just be careful which line you take on the fourth water crossing on Witt Road. It by no means is hard but you do need to stay out of the cracks in the rocks that sometimes cause riders some issues.

Heck just have fun and learn as you go, that is what makes it an adventure ... Right?

Yeah, starting from Tellico Plains and going to Calhoun. I was kind of bummed when I saw the starting location had moved. We were looking forward to starting in Jellico and working our way through east, TN (as it's all conveniently located). Without confirmed directions we aren't about to waste time trying to figure out it though.

I used to take the Toyota 4x4 down to Tellico and go 4wheeling years ago when it was still open. I love the Tellico area. I can't wait to get back down there and do some exploring.

I'll be putting the snorkel back on my airbox

I'll be at Pickwick Dam Sunday or Monday night. If you do only 40 miles on day one, I would expect to see you in that area sometime Monday when you consider Sunday's forecast

I'll be riding a 33' Cris Craft though. Probably stay at the Boatel on the Tennessee side. My boat mate stayed there on night #2 when he did the TAT last June. We're going from Indiana to Key West via the Tenn-Tom

akaDigger,

We are doing the 40 miles as a test-run and then heading back to Knoxville.

Well I missed you at Dual Sport Touring by an hour today! Good luck tomorrow and let us know how it goes. Lunch or a beer next week if interested.

I'll try to follow this as well. A friend and I are going to do a modified version of the tat in 2015 after I get back from deployment.

She's live.

Head back to the 1st page for an in-line read of our first day on the TAT.
