Internationalism and solidarity: Basque Country to Kurdistan and back!

There are some nations in this world that have their own language, culture, history, desire to be free and not to continue under any other country´s laws. But sadly, those countrys have the obligation to fight for their rights, as they won´t be allowed to live as an independent state.

Basque Country and Kurdistan are some good examples of that reality. And I am basque.

So, loving motorcycle adventures, it once happened to me that I had enough time and money to see, hear and smell the reality of that other country I came being interested on.

That´s why I decided to visit Kurdistan. At least, the part of Kurdistan under the control of Turkey. Because, as you may know, Kurdistan is also under the control of Siria, Iran and Iraq. Not an easy fight at all for the kurds:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurdistan

So tomorrow, I´m heading to Amed, also known as Diyarbakir.

5 weeks of solo adventure on my trusty Suzuki VStrom 650, no GPS, only paper maps and inhabitants' recomendations. My bike, my tent and a few books to read on those lonely nights.

This is the route I plan to do. Of course, it may change more than expected, but that´s what adventure is about:

I plan to ride in Slovenia, Budapest, Transfagarassan road, Doug´s motorbike camping in Idilevo, Istanbul, Capadocia, Amed and kurdish lands, Nemrut mountain, Anatolia coastline, Pamukkale, Meteora in Greece, Kotor and Durmitor in Montenegro, Croatian coastline... Many nice places!

Stay in tune, adventure is coming!

Blame it all on the British

Safe trip and stay out of Syria, you don't want to be on the news.

Definitely the trip I wish I could do. But up to Iran.
Stop in Lebanon on the way back.

Don't spit on a GPS. It is a great tool that can save your life. Use it as an electronic map when you are lost.

sounds like an amazing adventure, godspeed!

In keeping with the theme of the trip (which I love, by the way), would be cool if you continued on a bit further south and visited Palestine

Don't worry. It's coming. Palestine will soon be an independent state after 67 years of bloody occupation and apartheid... ;-) And you bet, that day, I'll ride to Palestine.

Palestine has long been on my bucket list and will likely be my next destination after my South American trip this coming year. Though I probably won't do it on a bike (though a Levantine ride sounds pretty amazing), been trying to see if I can go there and volunteer in some capacity with the UNRWA or ISM. Despite the decades of occupation and colonialism, it's always struck me as a profoundly beautiful place, both in its natural landscape and in its inhabitants.

anyway, I'll stop hijacking OierXT's thread

Hey everybody!

Thank you very very much for your compliments!

I am writing this to you from Bled, great little town in Slovenia. I'm so sorry not having pictures to show you, as I told you this is an old-school trip, no GPS, no tablet, no computer, almost no mobile phone

But I promise once I arrive at home I will do my homework, I will!!!

Meanwhile, ride and be happy! Go for it Kurdistan!!!
