Dakar: Corporate politics sucks!

Roma, no win, Dr. P a gentleman or a corporate dawg trained to do whatever comes through his headset?!

It I was Nani Roma, I would have not passed Dr.P, nor would I have got out of my Mini and pretended to win the Dakar!

It's appalling to witness the 2014 Dakar (cars) handed to a racer who clearly did not win it!

Corporate Team politics SUCK!

yup a TOTAL fail.
I'm glad I didn't even bother to watch the cars section from day 1.

Learn something from the Yamaha factory team...now that's how it should be done.
let em race!!

While I'm not a fan of team orders ...

I never cease to be amazed when someone possesses such thorough knowledge on a matter as to claim moral authority to judge another, one whose name they cannot even spell.

Of course, one could always STHU and UNDERSTAND from those who have actually been at/worked at professional rally events … http://advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=23266632&postcount=609

But why learn in quiet and perhaps be thought a ‘tard, when you can shout from a soapbox, and remove all doubt?

C'mon Ted, get with the programme!

Don't you know that in Ice Age 6, Manny is driving Team Flintstonemobile with Sid the Sloth as his co-driver?

Go on, tell me that's not a plot line worth going the theatre for?

My 7 and 4 year old daughters finally got the rally bug this year - this movie could hook them for life!

I suspect I simply have to accept the Talladega (yes, spelled right) Nights - Ricky Bobby style of racing we have these days. Having worked at local tracks and a rider since the mid 70's, it is hard to witness the transformation of the DAKAR over the years...it's still a fantastic race, its just a shame corporate influences has changed it so much.

I seem to be in the minority in not having a problem with this. Racing is big business and Nani lead since what, stage 4? Hard to squawk about team tactics when the bikers have employed water carriers for decades. It's the way the race is run.

The problem is not so much what they did (as Troy explains in the link, it's gone on since forever) - rather how the hell it got out into the public domain in such an obvious way this year?

Clumsy, for sure.

The water carriers, I tend to think it is different. I may be wrong, but I think it is a Job. They pay you to help that rider. Like the support trucks that race etc. They can hire how many they want. But the connection there is to help the other, team rider.

Now, to have somebody, remotely connected to races, who sees the sales numbers, indeed from a company point of view is correct. How you present that to the public is a different matter. Peterhansel could simulate a tire change for example. But being who he is I think he wanted to show that if he wanted, he could have won this race. It is the presentation of the thing. I always like to see the MotoGP bikes fighting at the end, even if they are three Honda repsol bikes.

If they keep with that attitude, people will just do not like it. And do not think that all the viewers are like here. Most people will say ''oooo,,, a staged race ... again....'' ... And here (EDIT: I mean in these types of races, unlike in F1) , you can mask the team orders very, very well... It is really the driver/rider characters that let the word spread....

Mini tarnished the glory with a hollow victory for Roma. I hope Mini has trouble finding drivers next year.

There were 9 Minis this year, I don't think that will be a problem.

and ever has been.

Peterhansel has benefited from team orders in the past. His team-mates in the past (Roma is one of them) might have made the same noise he did now, but they chose to be professional, keep quiet and defend the brand to whom they signed allegiance.

Roma interview
"Peterhansel gets upset that I won it, that's why he made all those declarations. He is a "killer", hates to loose and he started the confusion. However I am happy with our result and nothing can change it. One has to look into the results: I've lead for 8 days, I won two stages and third place was almost one hour behind. Peterhansel will leave the team this year e that's why he attacked like this. He told me that he either passed me or he would bust trying, he didn't want to be second."

Quote:
