Kurt RIP

For the past 24 hours I have been sick and angry thinking that Kurt's accident was caused by another human being. Hearing otherwise now I am extremely sad and calm knowing that he did not hit a booby trap. May he RIP

My heart is saddened by this loss, my deepest condolences to his family. I met Kurt a few years ago at a race and he was very nice guy, my prayers go out to all that he knew and touched with his life. Rest In Peace brother you'll be missed.

I read about this earlier today, and it's truly sad. I will miss rooting for him in the Dakar. Top shelf guy from any interview I've seen, and a super talented rider. The KTM release says it well. Godspeed Kurt, too soon.

Kurt's mechanic has the bike and says he hit a cow, horse or other large animal. This is via his Instagram account.

Not a booby trap

Just read an "official" update re: Kurt's death. It was in a remote location with no spectators.

This is information from Kawasaki rider Taylor Robert

"I want to make something very clear and stop the rumors. Kurt Caselli did not crash because of a man made booby trap, a spectator, or any other nonsense that people are saying about his accident. My teammate Ricky Brabec was the fist person to Kurt which was in a very secluded area with no Spectators. Ivan Ramirez showed up shortly after Ricky. They decided Ricky would go get help while Ivan stayed with Kurt. Even though the news didn't come out until the night time the accident happened while there was still daylight, and didn't have anything to do with racing at night. This was merely a racing accident and had nothing to do with booby traps, spectators, or another vehicle so please stop spreading rumors.

For those who knew Kurt such as Chilly, thanks for your personal postings.

I did not know Kurt personally but because of the forums and blogs, etc, that I read and follow, I felt I did and as a result feel very saddened by this loss. I thought it was so great when he stepped in and up at last year's Dakar and was so looking forward to his participation in 2014.

It was so strange, that yesterday I opened my AMA motorcyclist magazine and read the nice article about Kurt and to see the news this morning about his death. My condolences to his family and friends. RIP Kurt.

great tribute to kurt, thanks chilly.

having spent some time with kurt, one will feel how much he's loved by many.

i'm at a loss, though nothing compared to his family and friends. my sympathy goes to them.

i'm not much into racing and didn't know kurt until i met him at the ktm rally a few months ago in steamboat springs. early friday morning, i joined his group ride (really glad i did, one opportunity that will never happen again). we talked briefly but frequently. for 3 days, i ran on to him all the time since i like to wander and take pictures.

he has a very shy demeanor but approachable. always have the time for the rally participants and his fans.

because of his wonderful personality and attitude, i got drawn to him and immediately became fond of him. once i got home after the rally, i googled kurt casseli.......and i was impressed. my first thought was...this kid is bound to be a legend!

i took a bunch of pics at the rally and over the shoulder, and this is my favorite...the sport and people who care for kurt will miss him dearly.

ride report is here
