Rear shock rebuild in S.A.?

My 640 Adventure's (ktm/WP) rear shock needs a rebuild in a major way.
I'm in Ecuador at the moment, town of Banos, and heading down to Cuenca in a couple of days.

Does anyone know of a shop south of here, that would be able to rebuild it for me? In Ecuador or Peru? I'll be visiting the ktm dealer in cuenca but in the event he can't help, a plan B would be nice...

thanks,
-J

Heya J, apparently there is a good dealer but it Quito.

We are also in Banos, just arrived yesterday, we have Court Rands card from Freedom Rentals so you can contact them as they may know where to go.

Let us know if you wonna catch up, we are in Hotel Verito next to Dental Salud just out of the square on the top side

There's a KTM dealer in Cuenca, I bought brake pads from them. I'd touch base with them and see if they have any options.

Was in quito during the week end and the shop was closed and being on a bit of a timetable, had to leave.

Darn, would have loved to meet up and chat but we left Banos this morning. We're in Macas for the night then heading to Cuenca tomorow morning. There is a ktm shop there so we'll see but i don't have much hope.

Safe travels,
-J

No worries man, that is the way it is.

We will be heading to KTM Cuenca too for rear disc pads, last ones we put have dissolved quickly .... 6000 km with not much rear brake use., maybe it is the abrasive muck but 6000

Hope you get sorted mate.

had them do some work on the bike today and mechanic was very thorough (watched him closely as i dont trust mechanic in general). Worked a good hour and half o the bike and charged me ZERO!! of course, it helps that I bought for close to 300$ in parts. :)

They where eve going to rebuild my shock as they have all the required equipment, but they needed the rebuild kit and that's two weeks away so no go. :(

And they vey strongly discouraged me from having any work done on the bikes in peru as the ktm shop (s?) are realy shit.

So looks like plan B is in effect: only i don't know what it is yet.
Any ideas people??

We have had the same told to us, we will need to get a valve check somewhere in Peru and I am very weary, if I could get the tools and a clean dry space I would do it myself.

Toby in Peru may have some leads, probably worth contacting him, probably the best shock place was in Bogota.

Is there a KTM community in Peru??

i'm looking into having the rebuild kit shipped from canada to lima by fedex, pick it up there and go to a suspension shop and oversee the work. Other option is to have a new one shipped. A lot more expensive but peace of mind would be nice...

Mate we have paid twice to have ours regased and reoiled, they insist that there is nothing wrong but it still knocks between the compression and rebound strokes and it is worse when it is cold.

I can feel it through the pegs, has new bushes and all and they have cjecked EVERYTHING else on the biek for the rattle, they admit the rattle ins in there but say that is it!!!

Have contacted Konflict Motosports as they have a bloody good rep.

Andi,
Has the shops you have used vacuum bled and filled the shock, or has it been hand bled? The SE utilizes a single piston unlike most WP PDS units, but still benefits from a proper vacuum bleed/fill.

Heya Alex

In Medellin it was simply hand bled, in Bogota it was supposedly machine bled, that is what I have been told so I guess I have to believe it.

However neither netted a quiet operating shock, shock has new bushes etc too so I am positive it is inboard
