Can they still do donuts?

Oh wait, that was always against the rules.
Except for Seb.

Stop for flags?
Jump on the fence?
Give rides to others?

Nope. Nope. Nope.
What a bummer.

There are two ways of looking at the parallel Fernandez draws with football (well, soccer from over here ).

The first sees it long-term. Fernandez says:

"... the racing stays the same, with the same three or four teams there winning. There is no underdog who comes in."

And yet ... who is doing most of the winning? Red Bull. A team built from perennial disappointers Jaguar. Classic case of underdog rising to overdog.

The main reason that can be missed is that people who buy F1 teams tend to rename them. People who buy footy teams don't.

Other examples are available. Possibly the most salient:

- in 2008, Honda finished ninth, scoring points in only three races. In 2009, the renamed team won eight races and the driver and constructor championships, with the same driver line-up.

So on the long-term view, some F1 underdogs do have their days.
The problem with both of those examples is that they're unique, one-offs. And ultimately both affirm Fernandes.

Tony Fernandes' point was that only rich teams can win. Red Bull has spent more money than anyone else in F1 since they bought the team. They validate what Fernandes is saying.

Brawn won because of a rules change and a single innovation. It's worth noting that as other teams caught up in 2009 Brawn couldn't afford to match their spending and had to hang on to win the titles. The next season Brawn was out of it. Again, as Fernandes says, because of money.

Been wondering if they'd ban that. Seems obvious.

Looks like Boullier may be the next to leave Lotus.
Rumors say he may be headed to McLaren.
End of the Enstone team?

translated from Auto Motor und Sport:

goes Boullier, Lopez takes over

In Lotus there is a change of leadership. The contract with team boss Eric Boullier had expired, giving the 40-year-old Frenchman is the possibility to dock at McLaren. Team owner Gerard Lopez and his partner Andy Ruhan will fill the gap. A substitute for EB is not excluded. One possible candidate is Martin Whitmarsh.
The list of engineers who have recently left the Lotus is long. James Allison, Dirk de Beer, Gerald Murphy, Ciaron Pilbeam and Ettore Griffini ran over to Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren. Now even team boss Eric Boullier. But its not yet confirmed move to McLaren was programmed. The Treaty of Boullier Lotus ran from the end of 2013 and was not renewed.

That gave Boullier the opportunity to look elsewhere. McLaren it is just right. There, however, Boullier encounters a similar situation as with Lotus. The real boss is, Ron Dennis. For Lotus he found similar conditions. Decisions such as the driver's choice have been taken already by team owner Gerard Lopez.
Lopez for policy, Ruhan for the office The gap is initially closed internally. G廨ard Lopez's official team boss, but is primarily concerned with the issues with the FIA and the commercial rights holders. He is represented at all future meetings of the Strategic Group Lotus. Managing Director Matthew Carter finished the day's business, as Lopez does not have the time to appear in person at all the races.
Partner Andy Ruhan's the boss at home in the office. The responsibility on the track is mainly in the hands of technology chief Nick Chester and chief engineer Alan permane. Lopez wants to wait and see how effective this structure, but has already announced: "I can take I'm still one, if need be."
Come Whitmarsh or Brawn? Two names stand there at the top: Martin Whitmarsh and Ross Brawn. Both are free at the moment, both looking for new challenges. Lopez is keeping quiet on the subject, but already suspects that they will bring his team to the two former team bosses in conjunction. "You can talk about anything." His standard response
The budget for 2014 is covered by the new sponsor PDVSA, Saxo Bank and YotaPhone the first time since the acquisition of the Renault team in 2010. This means approximately 170 million euros, ten more than in the past. Since the higher engine costs more significant. Lopez added: "We have to shoot this year no more money out of pocket."
Lotus fights against McLaren to the main sponsor

If all goes according to plan, Lotus could make profit in 2014 even. The team from Enstone dredged at the same main sponsor with whom McLaren is in negotiations. With the difference that the price at McLaren is expected to be higher. There about 60 million euros have to be replaced, Vodafone has paid into the team fund.
To what company it is, is not yet known. We only know that it is a Japanese technology company. As McLaren has been associated with Sony in conjunction weeks ago, maybe could the fathers of the Playstation behind it.
