The lesser lanes of the Cotswolds

The four moobs were all available for a trail-ride on Sunday and with the weather looking favorable we decided to ride some of the lesser used lanes in the Cotswolds.

We met at Castle Coombe car park and set off at 09.30 for a nice easy start with Summer lane and then first part of the Fosseway from Fosse Gate. Next we were going to ride Commonwood lane but our way was blocked as they are rebuilding the railway bridge on the Fosse so we had to detour.

We found our way around to Luckington ford via another lane, here's Leigh passing through.....

We rode a couple more lanes and went to investigate another before finding our way down to Ozleworth Bottom. This is a cracking lane which we don't ride enough but I shall be making more of an effort to fit it in to more rides......

We did a couple more lanes including a new one to us which led us into Avening where we dropped down to Nailsworth to get fuel and a sandwich. Rather than sit and eat in the filling station I led the moobs up to a lane that overlooks Gatcombe Park, a fine place to stop for lunch. Here you can see our bikes parked next to one of the jumps that they use in events, they must be mad, sod jumping a horse up or down that

Now we were into the best part of the ride as there are some cracking lanes north of the Stroud-Cirencester road. We rode the Daneway and Battescombe and then a sunken lane to Lypiatt.......

Steve

Barftone

Leigh

From there we rode the lanes around the Duntisbourne villages including the excellent ford and then a couple more to bring us into Cirencester.

Pick your rut and go for it........

By now we were starting to lose the light so we took a brisk ride back down the Fosseway and then made our way home. All in all it was a great winter's day trail ride and one to be repeated

Nice one, Bob!

Lovely lanes in the Cotswolds; makes me think that I should venture into that direction more often.

PS. Just looked up 'Moobs' in the dictionary...

It's a case of 'do it while I can' Russ, I'm sat here legless at the moment as I have a lump that's come up behind my knee but that's just the way it is.

It's annoying to be stopped by these silly little problems but I'll ride when I feel fit enough
